My hubs and I have been seriously reassessing our finances. We spend way too much on things we shouldn't and with him out of work right now and twins on the way, every last penny matters.
One huge money suck is cable TV. I think we pay something like $150 a month and we get Showtime, HBO, and every other channel under the sun. But you know how many times I'm channel surfing and find nothing I want to watch? A lot.
And Mr. Cafe MicheleZ mentioned how we should get rid of some excess cable channels and we can save more than half of that. Sounded like a great idea until I realized True Blood has started. No HBO = no Sookie and Bill. Oh no!
My sister has HBO, so we're thinking we can catch up on the vampires when we visit, but it still makes me sad I can't curl up on the couch and watch on Sunday nights.
What does all the fun entertainment stuff need to be so expensive?
Have you had to give up any entertaining things? How am I going to survive without Sookie?

$150 a MONTH? Yeah, um... you can pay like, $10 a month for basic cable, $30 for some fun channels, then pay like, $15 a month for the 2-at-a-time-unlimited Netflix subscription.
I feel for ya!! We actually had our Dish shut off because it is not something we need right now. Plus, there was really nothing on!! LOL!! We do get new free preview channels every month, so we may watch whats on, but other then that we dont bother. It doesnt bother us or the kids, they play outdoors more and do more creative things!! If we need things like news, then we use the internet. We do not miss it!!
We kept our satellite because we figured that we don't spend money on anything else. As a birthday present a few years ago my Grandpa said he would pay my internet, which isn't much anyways, and we don't rent movies or go out to eat or anything like that. So the satellite is our splurge really.
I know Ilianexy! NYC prices for cable are the worst.
YESSH! For once something makes me happy to be in the Midwest. We have a big package with all of the channels except for Starz, pay extra per month for Baby TV, pay extra for HD and our local channels and ours is only $70 per month.
$150?! thats crazy! we have diretv and pay about $50 a month and you get way more channels than just cable, and that includes a DVR.
We gave up cable long ago! Even though we're making more now, we still don't have it. We don't watch it enough to make paying $100/month worth it. Instead we watch everything online (Internet $47/month), pay $8.99/month for Netflix.
We haven't been out on a date for months though. We need to get back to that soon.
We got rid of cable when we were in the process of moving. It didnt make any sense to pay a bill when we werent going to be there anymore. So for a month i watched Cnn , I missed food network, but actually not that much. My husband is the tv fanatic im usually too busy cleaning the house to watch tv. I used your comments to convince him to cancel the cable thanks for ur help!
I get basic cable for $15 in NY up to channel 25..plus some others you have to search for on occasion. I m sure this price varies from state to state. $150 is way too much.
