I've been plowing through the Sookie Stackhouse (aka True Blood) books with zeal. My goal in starting a few weeks ago was to finish all nine before the premiere of Season 2 of HBO's adaptation True Blood this Sunday night.
I've just finished reading the fifth book, Dead as a Doornail, which has me convinced that Eric Northman is just about the hottest thing going. SO much sexier than Bill ...
But back on track ... the thing is, it didn't take me long into the Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris to realize that the show's story line is only loosely based on the books. So now I'm going to slow down and savor each colorful character, each delicious romance scene, and each ruthless supernatural battle without too much fear of a TV spoiler.
As Bleacheddecay says, "The series doesn't live up to the books. It's nasty and ugly in comparison. Consider the series and the books as two different things. That's my advice. I enjoyed both that way."
Two polls to ponder ..

SQUEAL!!! I'm so excited...is it sunday yet? I watched the show first, then read the books...up until the 8th book they were good, then it just kinda went downhill for me..i think the actual show is better than the books..jmo...
just remember that the entire first season of True blood was basically LOOSELY (VERY - VERY LOOSELY) based off the FIRST Sookie stack house book.... so I can only assume that this next season of true blood will also BE LOOSELY based off the 2nd book...
Can't wait!!!!!!
OMG!!! I have my DRV all set since 4 days ago lol i can't wait!!!! on the poll I chose Eric as the hottest and second comes Alcide, there's somethingon him that attracts me to him lol =-D
Can't wait for it to start up again!!! You didn't have Quinn as an option as "hottest supe"!!!
Oh how could I have forgotten Quinn! There's just so many ...
I'm on Definitely Dead and also hoping to get them done before the premiere. Quinn's yummy thus far, but Eric....I think I may have whimpered during the scene in...uh. Maybe book 3 was it? Where Eric's giving her blood and he spooges on her. :) In a sexy way, of course. What a total miscast for the show. He and Pam are, in my opinion, the most miscast characters, though who knows what we'll get this season. I love the show and I love the books, but books are always better.
OH! And my MIL was showing Fly Away home to my stepbabies this afternoon. I saw Anna Paquin as a gangly little 13 yr old and bust out laughing. I told my MIL I'd just seen WAY too much of Anna Paquin these days to see her in a kid's show and she knew exactly what I meant! lol
I didn't care for the series. I prefer the books much better. Yeah they stuck, to the most part, the basic story line but i think they exaggerated just a tad on the sexual aspect.
