Amy is a teacher turned blogger, who has become a media queen! She's one of my favorite people online and in real life!
Meet Resourceful Mommy...
1. Tell us about yourself.
I began blogging in the summer of 2008 as Resourceful Mommy in order to find freelance writing jobs during time away from teaching. Blogging turned into writing for a number of different websites. I also accidentally launched a social media marketing business, SiteWarming Parties.
We live in the DC Metro area where my husband is one of “those people” who works for the Federal Government and doesn’t read my blog. We have two kids, Emma and Noah.
The first picture is me and my five-year-old Emma on the Teacup ride. I almost puked from spinning around! The pic below is me and my mom making cookies with Emma.
2. What's your favorite gadget?
The one thing in my house that I love just as much as sliced bread and disposable diapers is my DirectTV DVR. When I was nursing my son every hour (for the first 12 months….just kidding….kind of), I used to watch Days of Our Lives on DVR in the middle of the night. Now I use it to watch all of the prime time TV with my husband that I normally miss because of my tweeting addiction.
Another favorite is my Dell Inspiron laptop and its little brother, my wireless router. I love that I can pour cheerios in a bowl and send an e-mail at the same time. With my dinosaur of a PC, I had to ignore my children for hours at a time to get anything done. Wait, that’s right. I never actually used to get anything done. So I LOVE LOVE LOVE my laptop!

3. What's your favorite TV show?
I have to say, this is a tough one. I love TV. Like, in an unhealthy way. I’m a sucker for reality shows like The Amazing Race, although I stopped watching Survivor around season 42. I also love anything reality by MTV or VH1, even though it’s clear from the commercials that it’s been many years since I was their target audience.
My real obsession, though, is LOST. I did not watch the first season because I hate to be a lemming, but the summer before season two began I watched the entire first season in re-runs and was hooked. For awhile I got sicked into those LOST chat rooms where people deconstruct the plot and find hidden codes and meanings. Then I remembered that I had a life. Now I just watch it – on my amazing DVR – and sleep peacefully dreaming about Sawyer. If he ever gets off that island, I’m pretty sure that he’s going to be coming home to me.
Below is a picture of me and my favorite (and only) son, Noah, covered in Disney princess kisses.
4. What music do you listen to when you have “me time”?
I used to listen to classic rock in the car, which quite frankly, is my only me time, but now it seems that I am never alone. Because I got sick of my daughter asking questions about what those d.j.’s were discussing in between songs, we now only listen to country or Christian contemporary on the radio. When I get a chance to rock out on my own, though, I still like a good Indigo Girls or Ani DiFranco CD. Ahh…….
5. What song do you love to sing on top of your lungs when you are alone in the car or shower?
32 Flavors by Ani DiFranco, Out of Range by Ani DiFranco, Galileo by Indigo Girls, Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid. Did I just admit that?
6. What is your family's favorite entertainment activity?
My husband and I took our kids to Walt Disney World in Florida for the first time last December and we all had such an incredibly magical time that I decided then and there that we would do anything we had to do to return yearly. Because we plan on paying for a Disney vacation yearly, we unfortunately have no money for family entertainment in the 358 days in between our trips.
Below find a picture of my family at Disney World last year. Can't wait to go back!
7. Favorite board game or video game?
My favorite board game, hands down, is Scrabble. I play to win and I play for blood. I was taught to play by an 83 year old 300 pound woman on oxygen, and I had no problems kicking her butt….so I could take you down without flinching.
8. What is your favorite karaoke song?
It is my understanding that people do not really have a favorite karaoke song because once they sober up they’ve forgotten what they sang. I do have vague memories, however, of singing Wind Beneath My Wings to a friend who was moving away and there was definitely a time that I sang that The Tide is High song by Blondie.
9. Who would play you in a movie about your life? What's the plot?
I was once told that I look like Neve Campbell. A short, dumpy Neve Campbell, but still – I guess she’s have to pack on a few and play me. The plot? Rural Pennsylvania nerd moves to the big city, marries a Texan, and never moves home again. Then she blogs. The rest is history.
Big love to Resourceful Mommy for giving us a quick peek into her life! You can find Amy on a number different websites, she is a busy lady. Don't ask me when she sleeps!
