Toddlers and Tiaras, the TLC reality show about child beauty pageants, is a subject of debate here on CafeMom.

There was another question this week about the show What Do You Think About Those Toddler Pageant Shows on TV?

momma gig thinks the pageants shown on Toddlers and Tiaras are totally disgusting.

toriandgrace isn't against pageants, but she would not put her child in a glitz pageant.

jessnpaulie1014 believes the parents on the show need to work on their attitudes!

For those who don't like the show, don't read the parents guide on the TLC website on how to get your child started in pageants! It's a blog written by a father who is quite active in pageants.

Toddlers and Tiaras is winding down for this season. So all the people who claim they would never watch this show...better hurry up and see it before it's gone! LOL!

I do like how TLC usually shows one contestant who goes full glam and then one who goes natural. I really get tickled when the natural child wins and the parents of the full glam don't understand why their child didn't win! LOL Just goes to show that natural beauty CAN beat the fake stuff! I do like the fact that pageants can give little girls great confidence and agree with the moms that actually say when their child says no more, then no more. To me their are people that go over board on pageants but there are also parent who go over board on sports. Both kind drive me insane!

I agree with Sonylena Sports parents can go WAY overboard as well and that's crazy ! As for the toddlers looking like they are 25 that's VERY wrong!!

Right ON Sonylena! I couldn't have said it better myself. Any parent who makes the activity about meeting their needs....and not about what is good for the child, is going too far.

I think it is DISGUSTING! They had a 7 year old girl on there getting her legs shaved! They also dye their hair and tan them along with all that make up! The 7 year olds mother was saying that she put her DD in the pageants because she had low self esteem, now what is she going to do for her daughter's self esteem when she loses? I also don't understand how it is good for her self esteem to teach her that you have to put on all that make up and tanning crap with those seductive outfits to be beautiful!

I THINK PAGENTS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY CAN BE VERY CONSTRUCTIVE AND GIVE THE CHILDREN EXTRAORDINARY CONFIDENCE TO CARRY THEM THROUGH LIFE'S TOUGH CHALLENGES. I THINK AS LONG AS THE PARENTS ARE PLACING THE SAME STRONG EFFORT INTO THEIR EDUCATION THEN IT'S ALL GOOD. EVERYTHING MUST BE DONE WITHIN A BALANCE TO BE HEALTHY. WE WANT HEALTHY, EDUCATED, CONFIDENT AND RESPECTFUL CHILDREN SO THAT THEY CAN GROW INTO HEALTHY, EDUCATED, CONFIDENT AND RESPECTFUL ADULTS. KEEP IT ALL IN A BALANCE. DON'T STRESS THE BEAUTY WITHOUT STRESSING THE EDUCATION AND RESPECT FOR YOURSELFT AND OTHERS. THAT'S THE PROBLEM RIGHT THERE!!

OH, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IN PUTTING LITTLE GIRLS IN SWIM SUITS TO STRUT THEIR STUFF HALF BUTT NAKED THOUGH!!! I DON'T BELIEVE IN THE MAKEUP OR THE WAXES. LITTLE GIRLS SHOULD BE LITTLE GIRLS. THEY HAVE NOTHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO!!! TAKE EVERYTHING IN STRIDE AND ALWAYS KEEP IT AGE APPROPRIATE!!! THIS SOCIETY SUCKS!!! NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THAT IS ANYMORE!!! OMG!!!

It seems like there is more 'JUDGING' going on here, than at the pagants. TLC is documenting a way of parenting to learn from...take it or leave it. While I don't agree with the make- up/tanning/leg shaving, etc., it is interesting to see that it happens. It is better to see these children having an activity with their mothers compared to being ignored, left alone or abused. Watching overly competive fathers at elementary aged boys sporting events, to the point that they are required to leave the area, happens. To me, that is worse behavior for a young boy to deal with. We see again, that it is the adult with the problem. Growing up can be hard to do from many standpoints. Pagnts are not the worst thing that can happen to youngsters.
