My latest bad mom moment (#842) is because of Facebook.
My teen daughter is mortified because I am the only mom on earth using according to my teen and her friends. My teen quit using Facebook because:
Like, it was so awful having my mom on Facebook. None of the OTHER moms are on Facebook. You know?
I only wish I could show you Grace's eye-rolling as she informs me about my Facebook page..it is priceless! I do sympathize with my daughter, I really do. I realize I'm not exactly the June Cleaver or Carol Brady type of mother! My personal blog and my book are about parenting humor. I keep my girls privacy and their lives in mind in all the writing I do.
As if things couldn't get any worse, my daughter's friends are afraid I might actually friend them on Facebook! As geeky as I am, I know that a mom friend-ing a teen would be the kiss of death!
However, I do remind the girls that all information and pictures they put into a Facebook profile is a public record, forever and ever. My motherly nagging to my daughter's friends only adds more fuel to the bad mother fire!
I know even Heidi Klum and Seal will be lame to their kids someday. But try telling that to a teen.
Am I the only mother on Earth using Facebook? Please tell me that my daughter and her friends are wrong. Have you had a bad mom moment because of Facebook or another online community?
Any and all advice is welcomed by me, the worst mother in the world.

My kids want facebook and I have yet to allow it. I myself just joined and they are none to happy with me.
HAHA! My kids insisted I get facebook! I have three in college, one in high school, (I just allowed her to get a facebook page) and one that will start K next year. (he was not insistent ;) ) Their friends 'friend' me.
I have see the eye roll thing! HAHA!
I joined facebook just a couple weeks ago. My teen daughters died of embarassment. Then my DD in college VOLUNTARILY friended me. My 14 year old followed suit, eager to be like her big sis. My HS senior is still mortified at the thought but her best friend (a guy) thought it was just fine for an ancient relic like me to have a FB and said, "Tell your mom to friend me!" She's furious. It's great. They're coming around. I refrain from commenting on their photos or interacting much with them. I just don't feel it's appropriate, but it's a great way to get to know their friends moms who have FB.
I have a facebook page and have had it for about a year now. My oldest son wants one and i have 1 of his friends on my Facebook and myspace. So far i have became the uncool mom yet, I know it will come eventually.
I joined FB and then the group "Moms who embarrass thier kids by having a FB page" - My kids think it's hysterical 12/14 yo boys! Although they did go through the mom leave me alone I"m with my friends way early in Elementary School, so now I"m getting some OK moments and from them and I no longer have to wear a paper bag over my head to school.
I have a Facebook and a Myspace - so does my 14 yr old Step Daughter. She doesn't care :)
I got rid of my Facebook and Myspace pages after I decided I didn't want the scary movie and nearly-porno ads coming into my house via the computer screen because of ME.
My kids are far too young for these things, but I'm sure there will be something else to fight them about when they grow up.
I had Facebook before my daughter. Her friends added me. I took my daughter and her friends off my friends list however. It is a way for me to network and I don't want a bunch of applications filling my box each day.
If it wasn't for my daughter wanting a myspace page, I wouldn't have found cafemom. I was a member of clubmom at one time. Then two years ago, while making my own myspace page so I keep tabs on her. I saw the cafemom banner. I clicked on it and the rest is history.

I have a facebook page.My dds our 4 and 1. I don't think they care too much.
