'Below Deck' Recap: Kate Finally Lashes Out at Rude Charter Guests

Andrew Sturby may be gone, but that doesn't mean the gasp-worthy moments on Below Deck are over. Oh no, far from it! In fact, today we saw the last crew member imaginable totally lose it when the charter guests got way, way out of line.

Look, I get it, working in customer service is no easy task and sometimes you've got to just suck it up. But no matter how much money you have, the people who are "serving" you? Yeah, they are still people

Chief Stew Kate Chastain totally blew her stack. Here's the thing though -- I don't blame her, and I don't think anyone else watching would either. It was actually really sad to see the whole incident play out. That's because Kate began the charter with such high hopes! Coming off the last rude bunch, Kate was convinced that this group was being helmed by her "charter soul mate." Pretty quickly, however, she realized this was not the case.

Kate was so excited to work for this bunch. The primary charter guest? He was a total control freak and stickler for details, which suited Kate just fine. That is, it suited her just fine until her "charter soul mate" told her that because she wasn't walking around with an idiot smile on her face at all times, she was coming across as "bitchy."

Dude. Inappropriate. Untrue. And totally sexist! Look, I admit that I'm biased as a woman whose resting face looks sullen and sad. But here's the thing -- if Kate were a dude? No one would be demanding that she smile! Plus, she was doing such a good job! She was being courteous and quick and kind and receptive. Heck, she was even planning a scavenger hunt, special just for them.

The most heartbreaking moment of the episode? That was definitely when Kate ditched all of the scavenger hunt maps she'd been preparing because she was upset. I thought it was going to end there, but Kate upped the ante by going to the master suite and arranging the primary charter guest's blanket into the shape of a full-on penis. Dude! I mean, hilarious, but not doing herself any favors.

But let's be real, haven't we all been in situations where we wish we could do something just like that? In the immortal words of Terry Dubrow: "There's a word we have in the medical community for what you are -- and it's PENIS." Ha. Classic.

Do you think Kate was out of line?

Don't think Captain Lee will like it, but dude was a douche, even his "friends" thought he went too far. But boy did I bust a gut when the camera pulled out and showed that penis on the bed. So happy Andrew is gone!

Since when is the term "bitchy" sexist? No wonder people can't stand liberals.

Ok, that guy was an ass but come on, how many times have guests already complained that she makes them feel like she hates them?!! When you've chosen to be in the service industry, you have to go above & beyond to make your clients happy. I'm NOT saying you have to put up with being treated badly but good grief-you should be able to smile & think at the same time. She has the right work ethic but her attitude & lack of social skills kill it. I spent many years in the restaurant/customer service realm & would have fired her after the 1st charter because she is clearly not in the right field. A customer, especially one spending that kind of money, should NEVER feel like they are an imposition and Kate has now had 2 charters complain about her making them feel that way. She's KILLING the tips for the entire crew, not just herself. She'd be GONE if she was under my reigns!

I read a slightly different view on this on the Monsters and Critics blog by Sandy Malone who is doing a great job recapping this show as well. I have to hand it to you about your compare and contrast w/ a man in Kate's role and I know that there is some truth to that, that a man would not be pressured to smile as much. As someone who has a lot of autism spectrum traits to have to smile and give face like the not-Kat stewardess whose name I can't remember is exhausting and it has been a problem my whole life. I am really deep in my thoughts and rather prefer it than having to give submissive gestures and facial expressions to all parties present...for some people it comes naturally; Kat is a party person and the other girl is southern and I can tell you the 'sweet' schtick has been drilled into her from birth. I think, essentially, that Kate needs to run her own show. Perhaps she's spending too much money from her beer budget on her champagne tastes, and maybe it is time for her to take the talents she does have, such as work ethic and attention to detail, and open a restaurant, a catering business, or become an event planner. That way she can hire people to do most of the hospitality work while playing to her strengths as an organizer and manager. Here she is having to do both and it might not be her forte'.

Here is the deal. No matter how much money this idiot paid, he doesn't have the right to talk to her like that. If this were a commercial air flight and he said that to a flight attendant at the gate, the captain would have likely thrown him off the flight. MAYBE. But still. I defend rich people a lot but NOT in situations like this. Good for Kate!

Wrong, wrong, wrong. The guy was an asshole. But I presume he is paying a lot of money for this jaunt. So he makes a comment and wants her to smile. For God's sake, suck it up and smile. It seems like a pretty nice job to me.I think this is indicative of the younger generation. So she wasn't respected. So what. Join the club. Everybody eats shit sometimes
