It's always a delicate business to balance work and family life, but there are times when family definitely needs to come first. On Wednesday August 13, Celine Dion announced in a press release that she has decided to put her career on hold "indefinitely" to focus on her family, especially husband Rene Angelil and his deteriorating health.
72-year-old Angelil was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1999, and had a tumor surgically removed from his throat just last December. It seems as though Dion's husband of 20 years isn't the only one with health issues -- the five-time Grammy winner has recently cancelled several performances due to inflammation in her throat muscles.
The press release states that it's been "very difficult and stressful" for the family to juggle their health issues, how business, and raising their three children -- Rene-Charles, 13, and 4-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.
"I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children," the 46-year-old singer said in the statement. "I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support."
She had previously extended her Las Vegas contract to 2019, but shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been cancelled until further notice. She also cancelled a previously scheduled Asia tour for later this year.

Wowza, it must've taken a lot for a powerhouse like Celine Dion to put her career on hold "indefinitely." If there ever was a time to step back and take a breather though, it seems like this would be it. She can always go back to work eventually, but it sounds like this is time when her family really needs her. It's tough to have to make decisions like this, but hey, no one ever said at the end of their lives, "I wish I'd spent more time at the office."
Do you think Celine Dion made a good decision to focus on her family for awhile?
