Dwayne Johnson Posts Moving Message After His Mom Was Hit by Drunk Driver

Dwayne JohnsonDwayne Johnson revealed some devastating news on Saturday, when he took to his Instagram to post that his mom, Ata, and cousin, Lina Fanene, were struck by a drunk driver earlier this week. Thankfully, both survived, but it obviously shook everyone up.

The Rock shared a picture of the vehicle wreckage, and from how nasty it looked, it's a miracle both women made it out alive. He shared that their car was struck head on by someone under the influence, and took the opportunity to share some inspirational thoughts.

The actor and WWE star posted about his beloved mom and WWE NXT Diva cousin, "My mom & cousin @linafanene were struck head on by a drunk driver this week - they lived. First reaction is to find the person who did this and do unrelenting harm to them. But then you realize the most important thing is my family lived thru this and we can hug each other that much tighter these days. Hug your own family tighter today and be grateful you can tell them you love them. #BearHugsAndGratitude"

I think Johnson's initial thoughts echo what most people would feel after a loved one was hurt by someone who made the stupid, thoughtless, and downright selfish decision to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. It's natural to want to retaliate against people who hurt us.

But the star showed what's really important to him by putting the focus back on his family, and just being so grateful that they're alive. I love his "bear hugs" hashtag too -- I bet hugging that guy is about the closest thing you can get to an actual bear hug!

It's obvious Johnson has an affectionate relationship with his mom. On Mother's Day this year, he posted this sweet photo (obviously from the set of something) of them together, with the message, "Happy Mother's Day to all the beautiful mamas out there. We love and honor you! And to my amazing mama who taught me one of life's greatest lessons... Its nice to be important, but it's even more important to be nice. (I'm still workin' on that "nice" part;) #LoveUMom #HappyMothersDay"

So sweet, and so glad everyone is OK!

Have you ever known someone hurt by a drunk driver? What was your reaction?

You're lucky your mom and cousin survived. Sadly, my brother, at 18 and 4 days before Christmas, did not.

I was hit by a drunk driver while walking to school when I was 15. I obviously survived, but am permanently scarred on my arms & face, and it broke my pelvic bone in 3 places.

It could have been so much worse, and Im grateful to be alive. But not a day goes by when I don't look in the mirror, or have pain in my lower body, and I don't hate the driver just a little

Ten years ago this guy left a bar close to my home with his friend. The driver was so wasted that he drove off the road, hit telephone pole guide wire, severed the passengers head and continued driving home the remaining twelve miles. He had no idea he had decapitated his friend until the police showed up at his house the next morning. A neighbor called the cops when they saw the headless body in the truck while going for a walk.

My sister was hit head on by a drunk driver. She broke both of her legs, punctured both lungs with broken rivs and was wheelchair bound for a year before she could walk again. It was a very sad, very scary time for her. To this day I have zero tolerance for drinking then driving.

Dear Dwayne,
I am so sorry that they were hit by so some, with no sense off I'm self and is still willing to get in a car and drive drunk. I am glad that they are alive, and I hope their recovery will be fast and without any problems. My mom was hit by a drunk driver in Florida, and luckily her care was like a tank, and she was more afraid than anything. It T- boned her nearly in half. We were all scared for her. It is ome of the worst things to do, if you are drunk, and one of the most horrifying things to go through, is you get hit. I pray, that they never go through that again! My prayers and mahalos out to them for being ok. Yours, in faith, Kim Lorton
