There comes a time in the lives of most bad-boy/bad-girl celebrities when their various public antics take a decidedly strange turn, and people stop joking about them and start making various concerned mumblings instead. (Let's call this The Shaved-Head Britney Spears Attacking a Paparazzo With an Umbrella Effect.) I'd say Shia LaBeouf has crossed his personal Rubicon, and while people may disagree on when exactly this happened (I was still filing his behavior under "douchebaggery" during the plagiarism scandal), I think his disorderly conduct arrest at Cabaret last week sealed the deal.
I have no idea what all is going on with Shia LaBeouf, but based on his increasingly dubious life choices -- which included trying to start a fight outside a strip club right before his Broadway meltdown -- I'd say one thing is clear: he needs help, bigtime. Which is why the very latest gossip about LaBeouf is actually good news, for once.
According to X17Online, LaBeouf was spotted (IE, they followed him) heading from his Hollywood Hills home to a private treatment facility. The website reports LaBeouf's demeanor as pretty much what you'd expect from someone heading to rehab while being tailed relentlessly by a bunch of paparazzi:
Shia was nervous; he didn't look good all morning. He was looking down and wasn't even talking to his driver. It looked like he didn't want to do it, but he knew he had to.
His destination is described as "a private facility where other stars have sought treatment," and I hope for LaBeouf's sake this report is true and that it's the last time we hear anything about him for a while. I've never been a fan of his, but I'm empathetic for anyone struggling with a substance abuse problem, and based on his past issues (a 2007 arrest for what he described as "intoxicated" behavior, a DUI in 2008, a dramatic bar brawl last January), I'd say he's been on a bad spiral for quite some time.
LaBeouf's arrest last week was pretty horrendous -- he reportedly screamed at cops, “I have millions and millions of dollars and attorneys. I’m going to ruin your career," used a homophobic slur, and was muzzled with a face mask because he wouldn't stop spitting. He was charged with criminal trespass, harassment, and disorderly conduct. Everyone's definition of a rock bottom is different, but let's hope for Shia's sake that this was his.
Do you think it's good news that Shia LaBeouf may be in rehab right now?
