Shia LaBeouf is at it again. Lately he has made more headlines for his bizarre behavior than for acting. The latest? The star was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass at a Broadway show in New York City.
While theater goers were trying to watch Cabaret (starring Michelle Williams and Alan Cumming), Shia started being loud and yelling. "Shia seemed out of sorts," a source told Us Weekly. "He was interacting with strangers during the show and slapping people's backsides. He was trying to avoid the police and fell. Then he was cursing at the police while being taken into custody."
Bystanders said that the Transformers star was in tears as he was being taken away in handcuffs.
It would be easy to roll our eyes and dismiss this as an actor desperate for attention, but this is incredibly worrisome. There has been a disturbing pattern in play for quite some time.
The once quirky, funny child star took a strange turn. In 2012, he bragged about dropping acid to get into a role. He also reportedly got drunk on the set of a movie, making one of his costars so uncomfortable, she considered quitting. He also plagiarized characters, plot, and even dialogue for a short film he made.
That's not all. He was set to star in a Broadway play opposite Alec Baldwin in 2013, but a bizarre feud erupted with his costar and the director, and Shia quit. Then, in January 2014, he claimed to be leaving "public life" but then got drunk and got into a fight at a London pub. And in February, he wore a paper bag over his head at the premiere of his film Nymphomaniac in Berlin.
To me, this is all reminiscent of Amanda Bynes' breakdown. Her behavior was so strange, so unsettling. We didn't know what was wrong at the time. Of course, I hope this is just an over-the-top ploy for attention, but we should keep a close eye on Shia and hope these antics end so he can get back to acting.
What do you think is going on with Shia?
