Consider this the least surprising news you'll hear all day: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West threw their daughter North a VERY big first birthday party this weekend. Her celebration was so epic that it even had a name -- Kidchella -- and it was modeled on Coachella, otherwise known as the annual music and art festival in California where sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner recently wore these gothic get-ups.
The festivities took place in Kourtney and Scott's new backyard -- the backyard in the home they purchased from Justin Bieber. There were lots of surprises, and you can thank the Instagram-loving Kardashian/Jenner clan for providing the world with tons of photos.
Oh, and one family member was noticeably absent from the celebration. Any guesses?
Let's cut right to the chase: Scott opted to stay in the Hamptons, where Kourtney and Khloe are spending the summer filming Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons, while his pregnant partner and kids, Mason and Penelope, flew back west to party with guests that included Rachel Roy, Blac Chyna, and Jaden Smith. Whether that's yet another clue that their relationship is on the rocks, who really knows? Maybe Scott just needed a break from the family (cough, cough, Kris). Who can blame him?
Moving on. Kim and Kanye's little peanut will never remember this, of course, but her first birthday featured a ferris wheel...
...live entertainment provided by the Jenner sisters performing Karaoke:
...A stunning view of the mountains in the distance...
...AND Khloe getting in touch with her spiritual side while wearing a Native American headdress -- wait, what?!
I should mention that this look was NOT a favorite among her Instagram followers and Khloe is getting lots of heat for it. She obvously had no clue it would cause such drama when she posted it along with the message: "Ray of clouds. Chirping of birds. Gurgling of water. Granting desire. One with water. #Kidchella my first Coachella!!!"
Some of the responses she received were highly critical of her decision to wear this, including this one: "very disrespectful to the original peoples of this land. As someone who is an ethnic person you should know better."
Personally, I've seen far more offensive costumes at your average office Halloween party, but I can't say I'm at all surprised that drama follows this family everywhere -- even at a 1-year-old's birthday party.
No photos yet of Kim and Kanye with their toddler -- gosh, can you believe North is already a year old? -- but I'm betting they'll be cute as can be.
What do you think of North West's first birthday party? Is it too extravagant or just right?
