After last week's head-exploding "The Mountain and the Viper," Game of Thrones season 4 is scarily coming to a quick, incredibly crazy close. We only have two episodes left to go! Two freakin' episodes! And then we're going to have to endure another winter that is surely coming ... ugh, I'm just not even gonna go there. If anyone knows anything about Game of Thrones, it's that episode 9 usually has the most twists and turns of any episode in the season. And "The Watchers on the Wall" should not disappoint.
All season long -- actually, pretty much ever since Ygritte called out Jon Snow for knowing nothing -- the growing wildling threat in the North will finally come to what should most likely be an insane, violent climax.
Could even be better than season 2's "Blackwater"!
SPOILERS AHEAD for those of you who haven't watched season 4 up until now. And really, you haven't? Go watch it, you crazy person!
Director Neil Marshall is back to direct for the first time since the Battle of the Blackwater. We all know how fantastic that episode turned out. And all the way through production, those behind the scenes kept hinting at how epic the battle for the Wall is going to be.
The synopsis is as simple as it gets: "Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch face a big challenge." Wow, thanks for that, HBO.
Some fans may be frustrated not to know Tyrion's fate after watching Oberyn's head explode all over the arena last Sunday, but after constantly building up the slow approach of Mance Rayder's huge 100,000-person army versus only a hundred or so of the Night's Watch, it's time we finally see what happens as a result. And it makes sense to devote an entire episode to it.
One of the stills also features Ygritte in battle mode, so we may finally reach a conclusion to the Jon & Ygritte love affair. Could either one of them die? This is Game of Thrones, of course one of them most likely will die. But still, it's going to be heartwrenching to see if they'll ever be able to speak to each other again before the end.
It's going to be cold, it's going to be violent, it's going to be scary, it's going to be an action-packed hour. Fires, swords, speeches, tall, weird creatures -- we simply cannot wait to see the Battle of Castle Black! Just, please, no more head-crushing-with-bare-hands, thanks.
Do you think Jon Snow and Ygritte will reunite and/or die during "The Watchers on the Wall"? Which side will win?
