Maci Bookout’s Serious Financial Trouble Makes Us Concerned for Bentley

Maci BookoutMaci Bookout may look like a million bucks, but she's apparently landed in some major financial hot water. The reality star rose to fame on MTV's 16 & Pregnant and then four seasons of Teen Mom, for which she was paid an undisclosed sum.

It apparently wasn't enough though. In Touch has reportedly gotten their hands on a copy of a tax lien against Maci, which shows that the red-headed beauty owes a whopping $78,308 to the IRS from 2011. Ouch!

So how did this happen? Maci reportedly worked as an independent contractor for MTV, which means they didn't withhold any money for taxes from her paycheck. Instead, she was supposed to budget for such things and pay her taxes out of pocket in a lump sum.

As someone who worked as a freelancer for years, I totally get how difficult it can be to spend the money instead of saving it -- somehow you always think you'll earn more. I feel ya, Maci. Maybe not to the tune of nearly $80K, but I feel ya.

A source told In Touch that Maci is totally having a hard time with the sticker shock. "She’s in denial," the source reported. "She needs to find a way to pay back this money. She’s gotten herself into a lot of trouble."

Someone else told the mag, "She's been telling people that she’s working on paying it back, but very little progress has been made."

To make matters worse, Maci is currently unemployed and doesn't make a lot from hyping companies on social media. We're hoping she's finally going to finish her book or that the rumors about Teen Mom coming back to the small screen are true. Because let's be honest -- we can't get enough of the southern adorableness that is Maci, and we'd like to see her earn some cash and get out from under her financial woes.

Not mention how much we're worried for what this means for Maci's 5-year-old son Bentley. Not paying your taxes can have dire consequences, from destroying your credit to landing you in jail. At the very least, it's got to be stressing mama out and taking time away from him so she can earn the money to pay it back.

Hopefully Maci has a plan and all will be right with the IRS before too long.

Have you ever had to pay the IRS back taxes?

Oh poor Macy...whatever should she do? Hold out for yet another season of a show that promotes teen pregnancy, as you hope she will? Because its so great? Its crap. I remember when MTV was all about music, now its all about teens getting knocked up in hopes of becoming famous and rich. Here is an about she gets off her ass and gets a real job! Amazing how people can be so stupid. She should have hired an accountant with all that money. Im sorry I dont feel bad for people who make a ton for nothing and then wrecklessly spend it. Welcome to reality sweetie...the real reality...not "reality TV".

^ promotes teen pregnancy? uh, never have I seen that show and thought, wow that looks awesome! It looks miserable most of the time. And fyi teen pregnancy AND abortions are at a RECORD low, as in, as low as they have EVER been since they began to record the numbers. But I do think she needs to move on and rely on herself. It's time to grow up and earn a living like the rest of us.

@ilovemyrileybug I totally agree with you! I, too remember when mtv aired music videos, not 'reality tv' crap. They should air the 'reality tv' after the daytime soaps like one life to live.... bc that's all 16 and pregnant, teen mom and teen mom 2 are.. soap operas!!!!!

First thing she needs to do, she need to get rid of all those so called friends that sponge off of her! The way te show depicts it, she pays for everything including a place to live. Bet they drop her now that she owes money. I really like Maci, and she is a good mom. I hope she gets this worked out.

Agreed @ilove

@mommy, you obviously don't know today's youth. They don't watch that show and think, wow that looks tough. They watch that show and think, wow those girls got knocked up, now they're getting paid to be on mtv.

My husbands (wild, very troubled) younger cousin wanted to get knocked just for a chance to be on the show.

They don't think logically, all they see is fame and dollar signs

Let's be real! This show doesn't depict at all what it's like to be a teen mom, especially not a single teen mom. They drive brand new cars and clearly get their hair and nails done regularly just to name a few things. Nobody gets "paid" to be a struggling parent. It's horrible for teens to watch in my opinion.
