Hey Walking Dead fans: I have some great news regarding actor Norman Reedus. It's been reported that Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon on the show, died in a car accident this weekend. As the somber "RIP Norman Reedus" Facebook page read, "At about 11 a.m. ET on Saturday (May 31, 2014), our beloved actor Norman Reedus passed away. Norman Reedus was born on January 6, 1969 in Hollywood. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."
Why on earth is this great news, you ask? Because this, even more than the thousands upon thousands of devoted fans and the record viewing numbers for The Walking Dead, definitively proves that Reedus is a bona fide Hollywood star.
See, I think you can officially say you've made it as a celebrity when you're the target of a death hoax. After all, you don't see fake death reports circulating about people we don't know or care about, right? So the fact that tons of people were flipping out this weekend over a B.S. Facebook page just goes to show that Norman Reedus has achieved superstar status.
It's a weird milestone and more than a little creepy (seriously: who starts these hoaxes?), and frankly if I were an actor, I'd be a lot happier to get a golden statue, but the Famous Person Death Rumor has become a bizarre modern honorific. Reedus now joins the likes of Reba McEntire, Bon Jovi, Morgan Freeman, Russell Crowe, Channing Tatum, Britney Spears, Russell Brand, Hugh Hefner, and many more who have supposedly died in 2014.
As for Reedus, we know he's alive and well because he's been tweeting up a storm, and while he hasn't specifically addressed the hoax about him dying in a car wreck, he posted this on Sunday:
Whew. Because you know the saying:
Did you see this hoax about Norman Reedus? (Did you fall for it?)
