It's amazing how, now that we are on the last half of season 4 of Game of Thrones (noooooo!!), one of the most anticipated duels ever on the show features two relatively minor characters. The episode is even named in honor of the duel, "The Mountain and the Viper," and it promises to be one of the most exciting action sequences fans have seen yet. Plus, there is so much riding on this duel, as one of our favorite characters' fates is hanging on the outcome of it all.
But what's equally hilarious is that they're hyping up this battle like no other yet conveniently left out any promo pictures of either said Mountain or said Red Viper in their preview materials. Thanks, HBO!
Regardless, this is the time to say that there are SPOILERS AHEAD. Don't worry, no book spoilers, but season 4 SPOILERS AHEAD. Okay?! Onward!
Here is the official synopsis:
Unexpected visitors arrive in Mole's Town; Littlefinger's motives are questioned; Ramsay tries to prove himself to his father; Tyrion's fate is decided.
Well, from the synopsis alone, it looks like we'll see who wins the duel. Readers of A Storm of Swords know who the victor is, so come on, don't be one of those really truly sucky and terrible people who ruins it for others in the comments! You don't want to give this one away!
Anyway, curious what Mole's Town is? It's a village close to Castle Black where members of the Night's Watch go to get their prostitution on. We can't help but suspect that there might be some sort of surprise attack on the town, leading up to what should be an insanely violent, exciting, adrenaline-pumping episode 9.
And we can't forget about psychopath Ramsay Snow, who tasked Reek with becoming Theon Greyjoy again and taking Moat Cailin, which are ruined towers in the North. Can Reek pull it off? Will any memories of his old life surface taking on the identity of Theon again? Is anyone going to discover that Bran and Rickon Stark are still alive?
These questions would be far more significant if it weren't for ... that duel! Come on, that's what we all really want to see. Can the quick, skilled, cunning Red Viper take down the appropriately named Mountain, one of the most vicious, violent characters in Game of Thrones history? Fans have grown to love Oberyn Martell throughout season 4, so losing him would be awful. And of course everyone wants to know the fallout from Petyr Baelish's insanely badass move by killing off Lysa Arryn when he threw her out the Moon Door in "Mockingbird." Will Sansa tattle? What will happen to the poor girl next?
After going through a Game of Thrones-less Sunday last week, this one better be fantastic! And from all indications, it should be great:
Do you think the Mountain or the Red Viper will win the trial by combat?
