I don't know about you, but I was a teeny bit terrified to see the dress Kim Kardashian chose to wear down the aisle when she married Kanye West last night in Italy. Given her other many questionable fashion statements, most of which involve her exposing three-quarters of her body to the world, I pictured a gown that featured unnecessary cut-outs all over the place, or something with a bustline that plunged all the way down to the Italian marble floor.
I'm shocked by what she ultimately chose to wear -- and I mean that in the best way possible. Kim looked so elegant, timeless, gorgeous -- and yep, even modest.
Kim could have worn anything -- she had her pick of the litter when it came to famous designers, most of whom would have killed to create her dress. She ultimately went with the always-classic Givenchy, possibly because designer Riccardo Tisci is one of Kanye's best buds.
Oh, and also because he's a genius. He sent Kim down the aisle in a long-sleeved lace gown with what appears to be a cathedral-length sheer veil. This is the only pic of the dress to surface so far, and I'm DYING to see what it looks like from the front and back, but oh my goodness, how breathtaking is she?
The sleeves are similar to those on Kate Middleton 's dreamy bridal gown, and we knew she was def inspired by the Duchess. But the rest of Kim's dress looks like it's probably a lot more form-fitting and modern, which suits Kim's body and personality.
I wonder if this will inspire scores of brides-to-be to wear long-sleeved dresses?
And let's talk about that veil. Oh. My. It's romantically simple -- doesn't appear to be a single sequin or bead anywhere, and I adore how it sits flat on her head without a tiara. I totally took Kim to be a "tiara bride," and this is an unexpected and wonderful surprise.
I'm sure we'll be able to get a glimpse at what Kanye and little North were wearing in the days to come, but we do know Riccardo designed a tux for Kim's new husband and a little dress for their 11-month-old cutie.
Hurray for classic simplicity! Good job, Kim.
