George Clooney's Reason for Wanting a Short Engagement Is Surprisingly Sweet

George ClooneyGeorge Clooney is the eternal bachelor no more. Even though the rest of us are still picking our jaws up off the floor, the A-lister is practically chomping at the bit to get to the alter and tie the knot with new fiance Amal Alamuddin.

One source told Us Weekly, "He'd marry her today if he could ... but he wants to give her a dream wedding." So they've decided to wait all the way until next autumn to say, "I do." Talk about a whirlwind engagement to follow a whirlwind romance!

Talking about the marriage, the insider added, "It is her first, and he wants it to be his last!" The 53-year-old actor was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993, but he's been a regular playboy ever since, with ties to so many young actresses we kind of thought he might be in love with himself.

But he seems to have finally met his match in the Lebanon-born, London-based attorney Amal Alamuddin, and he can't get enough of her. Rumor is she even turned down several proposed dates with the Hollywood heartthrob before finally accepting!

More from The Stir: Who Is Amal Alamuddin? (Other Than George Clooney's Fiancee)

Now that George is gaga for Amal, he can't wait to make an honest woman out of her -- not just for himself, but for another surprisingly sweet reason too. It seems as though Amal's parents "are old-fashioned when it comes to these things ... they expect a short engagement."

Agh! I can't even take this sensitive, love-struck version of George Clooney. How are the rest of us schleps supposed to believe that bad boys don't change their ways when the most famous bachelor of the last two decades races his bride down the aisle to make her parents happy? I guess when you meet the right person, you don't want to waste any time before starting your life together.

As for the location of the impending nuptials, the gossip mill says they're considering both Lake Como or Cabo San Lucas, where George owns properties. But I have a feeling that whatever, and wherever, Amal wants -- Amal will get.

Are you in shock and awe watching George Clooney's romance with Amal Alamuddin unfold?

This whole thing reeks as a political sham. Everything has been staged. We've not gotten any pics not sanctioned by them.  Even the pap pics in London of her the past two days...staged/expected.  These "human rights"/"humanitarian" people are on a course toward progressive world domination.  Yeah...that's a bit extreme. I've been checking into her family history, though, and have been following his socilast views/anti-American remarks for over a decade now.  This does NOT bode well for the US...unless he renounces his citizenship thus his voting power and moves. Sorry to rain on your parade!

Even Warren Beatty folded. Who knows what can happen when the right woman shows up.

If this is true, then I (happily) believe he has Warren Beatty Syndrome. I think we realize as we hit our 50s that we need loves ones around.

Does anyone else think he's gay and trying to hide it?

I am in shock, and was quite surprized he is engaged so quickly and marriage so fast. for a man who told the news and friends, no marriage for me or family, he has to take his words back. I now know whatever he says, you cannot beleive. I am happy for him and pray he will have a happy future ahead and still continue his movies and directing. love you george, bg
