Okay, Walking Dead fans, if you watched all of season 4 -- and if you haven't, why are you reading this? Click away! I'm like one second from spoiler territory! -- you know that the show ended with plenty of questions about where some of the characters are. Beth's MIA, thanks to getting abducted at the end of episode 13 (although we now have one theory about who may have taken her), and Carol, Tyreese, and baby Judity haven't been seen since they were on their way to Terminus at the end of "The Grove."
Creator Robert Kirkman won't tell us where they are, obviously, but he dropped a SERIOUSLY intriguing hint recently. It's the sort of tease custom-designed to get people talking and sharing theories, so why shouldn't we indulge him? Here's the latest speculation about where the Carol/Tyreese/Judith's storyline may be going.
Let's start with that teaser from Kirkman:
People have reunited in that train car at the end, but Tyreese, Carol, and Judith are still out there. I think we’re gonna go in a pretty unexpected direction with that one.
An unexpected direction? WHAT COULD IT MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAN?
Well, obviously it could mean almost anything, but I feel like the main assumptions are:
• They got to Terminus first, and they're trapped like Rick & Co.
• They haven't arrived at Terminus, and they'll somehow be the calvary that'll save the day.
Let's assume the "unexpected direction" is that neither of those things are going to happen, or that they'll happen with a big twist.
Since Carol and Tyreese were heading to Terminus after leaving the house in "The Grove," they should have been ahead of Daryl/Rick. (Remember Mika telling Carol about gray vs. white smoke during that episode, and how it was gray when they arrived and white when they left? The moonshine fire had gone out, so Daryl and Beth still had the whole funeral home/kidnapping/Daryl-with-the-Claimers thing to go.) Now, there are lots of folks thinking that the powdered milk we saw outside of the Terminus boxcar means that Judith is around, but my pet theory is that they're feeding prisoners the milk, possibly to nourish them for the tasty BBQ they'll eventually become. And wouldn't Judith still need formula?
I think the answer to Carol/Tyreese/Judith's whereabouts lies in one of the new cast members. Remember the teaser about "Burton," a new character that'll be introduced next season?
One of the allies we're most excited to meet is 17-year-old Burton. He may be young, but he's already suffered great tragedy when he lost his leg. Luckily Burton does not let his disability keep him down, and his positivity is infectious to everyone else around him.
So there's that guy, and there's also the possibility of Father Gabriel entering the fold. Maybe Carol and Tyreese will join forces with one or both of those folks. If Burton ends up being a twist on the comics storyline, he may have escaped Terminus (minus a leg) and could warn Carol ahead of time.
Also, we know Rick has that stash of weapons outside Terminus. We know Rick and the gang spent very little time casing Terminus before they just hopped that fence and headed in. What if, unbeknownst to us, Rick had made plans with someone (Carol?) to lay in wait and attack on his command? I know, it's kind of an out-there possibility, because it seems like he'd have made Carl stay behind too, but still. We know Rick has gone full badass at this point, and the following line is almost directly from the comics (they PG-ified it for television), but maybe there's a double meaning to it?
They're gonna feel pretty stupid when they find out that they're screwing with the wrong people
As in, he's got a backup plan, and it's gonna be brutal and bloody and downright awesome? Here's hoping!
Where do you think Carol, Tyreese, and Judith are?
