Leah Messer Is Following in Chelsea Houska's Footsteps With 'Selfish' Move

Leah MesserLeah Messer Calvert has never been shy about grabbing life by the horns and living it. She's also no stranger to working hard to improve her family's quality of life -- from caring for her disabled daughter Ali to making sure her other kids don't feel left out to working on her marriage. She knows how to keep the gears turning.

But now she's doing something that may make all the difference for her. She's working on herself, by professionally honing her mad hair and makeup skills in cosmetology school.

She tweeted her happy plans to her followers last Friday, along with her joy over her decision.

Leah has famously rocked edgy hair and makeup looks through five seasons of Teen Mom 2 and even recently signed up as a Mary Kay consultant, so the lady is obviously into looking and feeling your best. She's just taking it a step further to turn it into a potential career. Hey, a girl has to have something more on her resume than "reality TV star" sometimes.

One person she should for sure ask advice from is her co-star Chelsea Houska, who graduated from beauty school last fall. Her fellow fashionista probably has a tip or two on how to ace those exams whilst managing that work-life balance. Chels did it as a single mom, and even though Leah is married, her husband Jeremy's work schedule takes him away from home a lot, and sometimes she feels like a single mom.

Which is why this move is perfect for her. She needs to take care of herself and not make her life about waiting around for the hubs to come home. Developing her skills in something she's passionate about is going to rock her self-worth and make her feel like a new woman. And there's no better example to set for your kids than to teach them to make their dreams a reality.

Do you think Leah and cosmetology school will go together like hot chocolate and marshmallows?

No. What happened to nursing school? What happened to being a sahm? Something must have happened financially to push her to go into a training program like cosmetology school.

I'm a cosmetologist and it's the best thing I could have done for myself and my son! The schooling is very time consuming and really takes a certain type of person to do it! It's very hard on a persons body but so much more than worth it! I hope she can make it through and be successful! It's not easy but so rewarding!!

hopefully she will actually go through with this and not quit like she did nursing school, her job at the dentists office, and her tanning salon job, I remember leah was saying she was getting ready to open her own tanning salon and said she found a building to run the salon and everything but then I read an article saying that she had to put it on hold because her and jeremy couldnt find a building then months ago she kept saying she was going to put together foundation for ali and other people with MD and that never happened and everything leah says she's going to do she never does it

Well spooky u need money to start a foundation so just because she hasn't done it yet doesn't mean she won't. And she is still young a lot of people have different ideas while they're young until they finally find something that they are really passionate in. And if I Remember correctly from the show Cory was the reason she quit her dentist office job because there were men. Seriously at least she's working and doing something to better herself!!

First off Coz is no longer just a training program, as the first commenter exclaimed. It's actually an associate degree in applied science. Secondly, what the hell makes it so beneathe being a nurse or a sahm? People will alway need their hair cut, and a stylist has the opportunity of flexible hours and the ability to control her income based on how many clients she takes and whether she does hair shows and weddings. Furthermore, she can work from home which allows her to be there with her children while still having financial freedom and a purpose. You may look down at the profession, but if you woke up tomorrow and no one was there to cut your hair or do your highlights, it'd be an irritation. If the girl wants to be a stylist, support her. Better to have a dream that ignorant people look down on than to waste your life having no dream at all.

Rachel - Where did I say I looked down on Ber? I'm a sahm myself but unlike her I finished my masters while dating my now husband and got married after graduated, worked for 2 years then started a family.like one poster said - she has a tendency to not finish what she started. She makes quick decisions and the complains after the fact. If I remember correctly , she got on Twitter almost 2 years ago and bragged about her husbands $10,000 paycheck.

If Leah wants the adult lifestyle then she better start acting like an adult. Her actions and words speak volumes.
