Gwyneth Paltrow's Divorce May Have Totally Not Been Her Fault After All (VIDEO)

Did Chris Martin really just blame his divorce from Gwyneth Paltrow on himself? Kind of sounds that way. Martin gave an interview to BBC Radio in which he opened up about his troubled marriage -- and seemed to take the fall for it not working out. He told BBC's Zane Lowe about his marriage:

I wouldn't use the term breakdown. This was more a realization about trying to grow up basically ... if you can't open yourself up, you can't appreciate the wonder inside. So you can be with someone very wonderful, but because of your own issues, you cannot let that be celebrated in the right way.

Okay, so this isn't exactly: "She drove me mad with all of that carb-free, gluten-free crap." That we could understand. This ... well, this we're going to have to read between the lines. Basically it sounds like Chris is saying he was shut down and unavailable emotionally. Which is kind of typical for a British guy.

And I imagine Gwyneth, being American, and being all up in everyone's way of living, and being one of those types who has to tell everyone what to do, probably clashed a lot with Chris's tight-lipped ways.

It probably seemed to work great at the beginning. She brought him out of his shell. He brought her down to Earth. That kind of thing. But you know what they say about opposites -- first they attract, then they attack.

Ugh, who can't feel for Gwyneth right now? How many of us can relate to having a guy who just won't show his feelings? (Raises hand.) But Chris needs to cut himself some slack too. It can't be easy being with someone who doesn't allow potato chips in the house.

But Chris knows what happened better than anyone except Gwyneth, and if he's saying it's all his fault, well, let's blame it on Gwyneth anyway! Ha. Kidding. It was totally Chris's fault.

Wait, maybe it wasn't anyone's "fault," this is just what happens sometimes. Chris, however, sounds like he's willing to make some changes. He told BBC:

About two years ago I was a mess really because I can't enjoy the thing that we are good at and I can't enjoy the great things around me because I'm burdened by this -- I've got to not blame anyone else and make some changes.

Hmmm. Does this sound like there's hope for these two yet?

Do you think Chris's emotional reticence was the problem?
