Since Victor Rasuk was cast in Fifty Shades of Grey as Anastasia Steele's BFF Jose Rodriguez, we haven't heard much about the charismatic actor's work on the film. Granted, he IS a supporting character, but still, central to the plot ... and involved in some emotional scenes with our girl Ana!
Thankfully, Victor's speaking out now about his character to Variety Latino, and even spilled a juicy secret fans likely haven't considered ...
When I played the role of Jose, I related, because it’s the girl that got away or the girl you always loved, and you never got to tell her how much you cared or that you wanted to be with her, and I’m sure every one can relate to that. It wasn’t easy, but it was definitely fun because it tapped into something that is so personal to me and to anyone else — to tell someone that you really like them — so it was great to play Jose.
Yay. But, then, he went on to drop a major teaser:
It’ll make some people see it as ‘I don’t know, bro, I would have done it differently’ or some will say ‘Why didn’t she fall in love with him?’ It portrays it exactly how the book portrayed Jose trying to sway Anastasia, but the outcome is a little different. I don’t want to give it away.
Whaaa?! Hold up. Okay. While we all know Jose is based on Jacob in Twilight, who was deeply embedded in a love triangle with Bella and Edward, and a hot love triangle is always a surefire way to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, E.L. James never had readers believing Jose stood a chance. We always knew Jose's love for Ana was unrequited. I'd bet we can assume it still will be in the film, but maybe the script has Ana toying more with the idea of giving him a shot ... And/or fans will root for her to! Whoa. Mind a little bit blown!
Fans have been hoping that the movie will stay very true to the book, but this is definitely one potentially hot tweak we'll be wise to welcome with open arms!
What do you guess will be different about Jose and Ana's storyline in the movie?
