It must be absolutely heartbreaking to love someone with your entire soul one day and then discover that person was suffering so much, he or she chose to end it all. Grief-stricken singer Mick Jagger has broken his silence about girlfriend L'Wren Scott's suicide by releasing a sad note on his website to honor the fashion designer and perhaps attempt to make sense of this tragic event.
The two have been together since 2001, when L'Wren met Mick while working as a stylist. But even though the tall beauty had all of the qualities you'd associate with a successful career woman, she must have felt something was seriously lacking in her life. Mick proves he is having a great deal of trouble comprehending what, exactly, drove her to commit suicide.
Mick's complete statement follows:
I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way. We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me. I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.
I will never forget her,
When two people are together for nearly 15 years, they cease to be merely boyfriend and girlfriend -- they become family. It seems like Mick considered L'Wren a partner who was as gifted as his fans believe him to be, which is just a beautiful thing.
L'Wren, who was reportedly $6 million in debt at the time of her death, texted her assistant early yesterday morning, asking him to come to her apartment. When he arrived, he found she had used a scarf to hang herself. She didn't leave a suicide note.
Mick was in Australia on tour with the Rolling Stones at the time of L'Wren's death. The band has since postponed seven shows until an undetermined date.
It's awful to think Mick may never know what drove L'Wren to take such drastic measures, but let's hope he finds peace soon.
