Could Angelina Jolie have originally been tapped to direct Fifty Shades of Grey? Let's face it, the Maleficent star would have been the perfect choice. This WAS the woman who once confessed to kinky sex with then-husband Billy Bob Thorton in the back of a limo on the way to an awards show. At the time Fifty was headed into production, rumors were rife that Angelina might helm it. That job, of course, eventually went to indie director Sam Taylor-Wood. But how accurate were these rumors? Angelina finally speaks out about it.
The sultry mom of six told Enterainment Weekly after reportedly blushing and turning bright red at the question of her rumored Fifty involvement:
I -- I was just ... I came very clear out of the gate: after Blood and Honey, if I ever directed again, it would have to be a certain kind of film. You know, I'm looking forward to seeing what Sam [Taylor-Johnson] does with Fifty Shades and she's amazing. I -- I think they're just ... it's funny, I think with directing, you just think: I'm better at telling some stories than others but, um, who knows?
Errmkay. What did that mean? Way to avoid the question, Angelina. You really have to read between the lines on this one, but she seems to be saying: Hell no, I was never going to direct Fifty Shades of Grey.
After all, In the Land of Blood and Honey was about the Bosnian War. And she just directed Unbroken, about WWII prisoner Louis Zamperini. So Angelina seems drawn to real life stories of captivity; not fictional stories of kink.
But as she says, for the future, who knows?
Do you think Angelina would have done a good job with Fifty?
