Cate Blanchett, Matthew McConaughey, Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón, and 12 Years a Slave producer Brad Pitt were the big winners tonight at the 2014 Academy Awards. Other winners included Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong'o and Spike Jonze. Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for her role in Blue Jasmine; Matthew McConaughey for his role in Dallas Buyers Club. Alfonso Cuarón walked away with Best Director. And Brad Pitt saw his production company, Plan B, get the Best Picture award for 12 Years a Slave, directed by Steve McQueen. He is the first black director to ever win an Academy Award for Best Picture in the show's history.

The earliest award of the evening went to Best Supporting Actor, Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club. In his speech, he thanked his mom, saying: "In 1971, in Bossier City, Louisiana, there was a teenage girl who was pregnant with her second child. She was a high school dropout and a single mom, but somehow she managed to make a better life for herself and her children. She encouraged her kids to be creative and work hard and do something special. That girl was my mother and she’s here tonight. I just want to say 'I love you mom, thank you for teaching me to dream.' Best Supporting Actress Lupita Nyong'o, who won for 12 Years a Slave, gave a teary speech in which she seemed quite shocked she won, despite winning all of the awards so far this season. She said: "No matter where you're from, your dreams are valid."

Spike Jonze won for Best Original Screenplay for Her, the story of a man who falls in love with his computer.

Alfonzo Cuarón won for Gravity, the story of a woman (Sandra Bullock) who gets lost in space. Sandra didn't pick up a trophy for her role in the heavily-awarded film, losing out to Cate Blanchett, who used some of her precious time at the podium to thank each of the other nominees individually. Always a classy move. She also thanked Woody Allen, who wrote and directed the film, but has been under a bunch of controversy lately.

Matthew McConaughey thanked his mom (who was waving at him from the back row), God, his wife Camilla, his kids, and his father in heaven, even picturing him watching the telecast with a Miller Lite in hand. He surely thrilled film buffs when he ended his speech with a quote from his breakthrough film, the cult classic Dazed and Confused: "All right, all right, all right."

And what had to be the bonus of the evening: We got to see Brad Pitt on stage accepting an Oscar for Best Picture. Surely the best looking producer in history. Brad stayed classy and gave a short acceptance speech but quickly handed over the mic to the film's director, Steve McQueen.

That's it, folks!

Oh, and the award for "weirdest moment of the evening" has to go to John Travolta, who introduced Idina Menzel as "Adele Dazim." Adele now has her own Twitter page.

Did you see any of these films? Agree/disagree with the wins?

Frost... FrostyMelted

The fumes from the glue holding on Travolta's wig must have caused him to become confused. And, I think he and Juan Pablo should definitely consider becoming an item.

I cheered out loud when Matthew said that at the end of his speech.  Perfect way to salute his career, he has now officially made it in the record books!

do other producers get haroled in the press as being OSCAR WINNERS when a movie they produce wins an oscar like Brad Pitt has? This is a COAT TAIL WIN for Pitt! Why is HE being lumped in with Matthew or Alfanso? I hate this Jolie-Pitt obsessed media. And a humanitarian oscar??? WTF??? Is this a new category or just something tailor made for St. Angie so she wont be left out? What a joke!
