Teresa & Joe Giudice's Plea Deal May Save 1 of Them From Jail

Joe and Teresa GiudiceIn some of the most serious real drama to affect Real Housewives stars, Teresa and Joe Giudice of RHONJ fame are expected to appear in court Tuesday to face  41 counts of fraud. For months there's been talk of major prison time -- up to 50 years -- and even possible deportation for Joe. A new twist in their approach to the case, however, could soften the punishment a bit.

According to In Touch, the two are close to reaching a plea deal with the U.S. Attorney's office in which they would actually plead guilty.

There are varying reports as to what pleading guilty could mean for the hot-headed couple. According to In Touch,  Joe would serve a minimum of five years in federal prison, but Teresa wouldn't serve any time. Instead she'd be on probation for a maximum of five years. They'd also have to pay $11 million in restitution, but Joe would be able to stay in the United States. That sounds a lot better than 50 years in the slammer.

The Bergen Record, however, says Teresa would be sentenced to less than two years in prison, while Joe would get a max of three years.  So it's unclear exactly what this could do for them, but it sounds like it could really minimize their punishment in any case, which for their children's sake, I'm glad to hear. While they should definitely have to pay for these kinds of crimes if found guilty, seeing them sit in jail for most of the rest of their lives isn't going to help anyone really.

We'll be watching to see what goes down Tuesday.

Do you think Teresa and Joe Giudice should serve jail time?

I think Joe should go free and Teresa should receive ten years in prison with a big bitch name Bertha. I hate that hag.

Watched the show once. Way too crazy for me. The one good thing if they both were made to do time for the crimes they committed-they children would probably be raised in a much more stable environment and in a much more normal way. I think both of these people are just plain whacked.

Yes. They are both scumbags and deserve to be in jail.

Is the public looking for justice or revenge?

I suggest the couple pay back any ill-gotten gains, sell the house and any other real property (cars, etc), pay their own lawyer's fees, as well as the cost of the prosecution (so that the New Jersey residents aren't hit for the costs).

No jail time, BUT...

...they cannot capitalize on their notoriety, meaning they cannot make reference to the show, collect any residuals, cannot be paid for any media interviews/confessions, any books or magazine articles or any other types of media profiteering from their situation are off limits or the profits will go to the state of N.J.

In other words, the greatest punishment you can give to these narcissistic jerks is to prevent them from ever poisoning the well of media and have to live real lives, and not the fantasy they created for themselves through criminal acts.

They should both be sentenced to prison. No one cared that Lauryn Hill had children and yet she served time for far less than what Teresa did. This is crazy that the court would even entertain this plea deal. If what they did does not demand serving time in prison, then the laws they violated should be repealed.

It is just so sad for the kids. They are the real victims. The question is was it Joe, who did all of this and then she got sucked into the situation being his wife? 2-3 years is a long time. Even if they get 1/2 off for good behavior. I agree that they should not be allowed to have any gain, whatsoever, from the TV show or anything connected. Who will take in the kids now? Her brother I suppose?

They both deserve to be in jail, pay restitution, loose anything gotten from this illegal activity and they should have to publicly apologize to the people they have wronged. I even think if found guilty to the worst of the crimes there should be consideration for Joes deportation. The whole crazy ass family could then go back to Italy. Joe and Teresa made it very clear that they did not want their children to go to Teresa's brother, they said it on national television during the last reunion show. Maybe those girls can learn some respect and humility with someone else raising them for a bit while their parents pay for their crimes.

Dee , she served less then 3 months. Also they gave her a chance to pay the 1.8 mil back in what was owed, they came to a settlemrnt and agreement but when she said she couldnt pay, she turned herself in for a DEAL ... so why did they entertain that ? Try not to make it a white black thing. I know that is such a loved thing to do these days, which is clearly where u r goinf wit b it, otherwise u would have named one of tbe other white celebs witb thw same issue.

They and the show are an embarrassment to the residents of New Jersey and Italian-Americans. Shallow, materialistic, selfish individuals who believe they are smarter and above the laws of the land. We're fortunate he was caught driving with a second false drivers license before some innocent driver was killed by his repeated drunk driving. She claims her antics are part of her heritage and upbringing, they are only those of a immature, classless individual. I hope they just go away.
