If you tuned in to Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, you got the first look at the new trailer for Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy. And there's no doubt about it: If you aren't familiar at all with this new comic book universe, the trailer is pretty freakin' peculiar.
And though it may take a while to get used to all these new characters and figure out who's who, you can't help but admit that the movie actually looks pretty damn good.
The first few seconds reveal that it's not taking itself too seriously. Of course there has to be a hot male human lead in the form of "Star-Lord," real name Peter Quill, who's played by a very buff Chris Pratt. Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana, is sexy as ever. And there's of course Rocket Raccoon. Who's a raccoon. He doesn't speak in the trailer but will be voiced by Bradley Cooper, and you can never go wrong with Bradley Cooper. Told you the whole thing is just bizarre.
Here it is:
I'll totally confess that when I first heard about this movie, I was pretty ambivalent about it. Looked way too weird. But now I'm kind of intrigued and will most likely guiltily check it out in August. It looks fun. And funny. And I love a good dose of campy strangeness.
Anyway, John C. Reilly and Peter Serafinowicz, members of the Nova Corps, take a look at their star-studded prisoner lineup in the trailer. Drax the Destroyer is played by wrestler Dave Batista. If you couldn't tell from the trailer, he's supposed to be the strong one.
Gamora is next, and she's an assassin. In the comics, according to EW, she was nicknamed "the deadliest woman in the galaxy."
Rocket Racoon is next, and he's a genetic experiment who likes to bite people and commit arson. Can't wait to finally hear him voiced by Cooper. I mean, a raccoon toting a huge ass gun on his shoulder? Ok then. Why not.
Groot is the tall fellow, and apparently in the comics, he only ever says three words: "I am Groot!" Good to know. He is a tree and is played by Vin Diesel. Yes. Vin Diesel is playing a tree.
Then finally there's Pratt, who gives us a lovely look at his abs at one point in the trailer.
Lots to go on and lots for comic book fans to geek out over. In terms of plot, seems as though Peter Quill manages to steal that orb, then he has to come together with these misfits to take on Ronan the Accuser, who wants that damn orb, which is very powerful, shockingly, then of course they also have to save the galaxy together as well at some point. Sound kind of familiar? It might, but it's a formula that works, and this geeky fan will most certainly tune in.
Will you check out Guardians of the Galaxy? What did you think of the trailer?
