Gwen Stefani Slammed for Body Shaming After Tweeting 1983 Pic With Sting (PHOTO)

One thing you can’t call Gwen Stefani is fat. Nope, not even a little bit, and not even with her being pregnant. The 44-year-old No Doubt frontwoman basically puts the rest of us lazy louts to shame with her rocking bod -- which she obviously doesn’t come by naturally.

Stefani tweeted a picture on Sunday of her teenage self in 1983 getting an autograph from Sting, who was the lead singer of The Police at the time. But then she made the mistake of captioning the vintage pic with “chunky me 1983. getting @officialsting autograph backstage. cut to...”

And then the Internet comments started rolling in, because how dare she call her not-skinny body “chunky”? She’s supposed to be a role model -- what kind of message is she sending by poking fun at her physique 30-plus years ago?

People need to calm down. I don’t think Gwen is dwelling on her body image issues. If anything, it’s kind of inspirational to know that Gwen didn’t always have the amazing body that she does today. Like, maybe if I put the Gouda away and did 8,000 crunches a day plus trained for a marathon plus yoga, I too could be a strong and slender size two.

That is so not happening today, by the way. I just thought you should know.

Anyway, so what if she used the term chunky? Did anyone look at the pic? While not obese or even fat by any stretch of the means, she’s definitely chunkier than she has been in decades. That’s her reality. And frankly, I think it’s good to be able to look back at unflattering photographs and say, “Wow, look how far I’ve come.”

Now onto important things -- like let’s all breathe a collective sigh of relief that shoulder pads are no longer a thing. God bless 80's fashion, and may it rest in peace.

Do you think Gwen should have refrained from calling herself chunky?

I'm sorry, but if she's guilty of anything in this pic its that sad, khaki outfit :-p She's not "chunky" and for what I've seen, never has been.

No I don't. People need to chill out.

Gwen is known for being overly anal about her weight because she is naturally big boned. Honestly I feel sad for her.

I think it was in poor taste to mention her weight at all. Why didn't she comment on the awful clothes or the dude with the mullet? Everything revolves around body image nowadays and it's ridiculous.

How is commenting on bad hair and clothing NOT revolving around image?

@blue Exactly!

She was chunky in that picture.

She can say whatever she wants about her own picture. God, enough with policing peoples comments.

"It's in poor taste that she mentioned weight." You mean how she referred to herself and in no way had to do with any other person on the planet? Oh, yeah I guess calling herself, in her opinion (again, of HERSELF), 'chunky' was total bullshit.

Except not. People are way too sensitive these days. Big girl undies; find them and put them on.

Gwen can say any and everything she wants to... about herself, for cryin' out loud! And hey, she also may have been identifying that yes, the Gwen we are now used to seeing was indeed the same Gwen in the younger "chunky" photo: Frankly, if she had not used that description, I might have thought that they showed the wrong photo. So, yeh, time to move on: Gwen said nothing wrong or misguided. Again, she was referring to herself: who the heck needs to criticize her for that?!
