Pssst! You guys! Sharknado 2 is coming (which we’ve known for awhile), but the word is in that Tara Reid and Ian Ziering will reprise their rolls as April and Fin, the intrepid couple trying to survive not just a tornado, but a tornado full of jaw snapping sharks!

Ah, cinematic bliss, I tell you. I cannot believe the Oscars snubbed the 2013 summer blockbuster! What were you thinking, Academy? Hopefully you’ll get it right with Sharknado 2, which is set to begin filming in February for a summer 2014 release date in living rooms across the country via the SyFy channel.

Obviously I jest about the Oscar nod (or lack thereof), but really, the so-cheesy-it’s-actually-kinda-awesome movie has developed a cult following, and I’m sure fans are hoping that they can do it again with the sequel. Adding Tara and Ian back in is a promising sign!

Sharknado 2 moves the scenery from Los Angeles to New York City, where this blogger hopes the toothy buggers will try to unleash their fury King Kong style on the Empire State Building before Ian Ziering punches them out with his bare hands. Because that would be awesome.

So will lightning strike twice? Will Sharknado 2 be as widely talked about and beloved as its predecessor?

Production company The Asylum is returning as the film’s distributor, and producer Paul Bales is hopeful.  “We’re thrilled to be able to bring back the talent that made Sharknado a hit,” Bales said. “Can lightning strike twice? I don’t know, but it’s a scientific fact that you’re more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark. This film will have lightning and sharks, so that’s got to count for something.”

Are you already programming your DVRs for Sharknado 2?
