It's no secret that job interviews are some of the most stressful events in our lives. So it somehow makes me feel better to see that even the hottest and most talented stars go through their fair share of awkward moments while trying to impress their potential employers.
Granted, their interviews are much less like "what's your biggest weakness?" and much more "read this line as an exasperated teenager." So when I recently saw the sneak peek of Tom Hiddleston's intense audition for Thor, I couldn't help but empathize. Now obviously Tom, who ended up playing Loki, didn't get the role, but MAN does he look good shirtless and in a blonde wig.
Tom's audition footage is just the tip of the long-lost celebrity audition tape iceberg (because those are a thing, of course).
Tom Hiddleston, Thor
Leonardo DiCaprio, The Outsiders
Long before we were swooning over the baby-faced heartthrob in The Titanic, Leo was trying to break into the TV game with a role on The Outsiders, based on the 1983 hit movie. He didn't score the role of Ponyboy, but did showcase his early penchant for that '60s gangster accent.
Rachel McAdams, The Notebook
Love it or hate it, The Notebook is one of the biggest romance flicks to ever grace the big screen, and its success is due in large part to the undeniable chemistry among the two leads (Rachel and Ryan Gosling did date in real life, after all). So Rachel's electric and emotional audition for the role of Allie showcases just how perfect she is to be Mr. Gosling's counterpart. Plus, the girl did it all with her purse casually hanging on her shoulder. Now that's a pro.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Helen Hunt, Jurassic Park
Before Laura Dern was cast in the role of Dr. Ellie Sattler in 1993's Jurassic Park, Hollywood actresses flocked to the studios for a chance to appear in the science fiction action flick. Among them, were Gwyneth Paltrow and Helen Hunt, who both flexed their dino vocab in these adorable '90s flashback scenes.
Robert Pattinson, How to Be
We may know him as Edward Cullen or Kristen Stewart's former boo-thang, but R-Patz is also one bonafide awkward actor. His audition for the independent flick How to Be, which came right before his foray into the brooding vampire series that would truly launch his career, has everything we love about the actor. Disheveled hair? Check. Unkempt clothes? Check. Clumsy entrances and hilarious inflections? Oh, Rob, you slay us.
Miley Cyrus, Hannah Montana
Though Miley has done almost everything to shed that Disney Channel look, you can tell she still has that charisma and star power that won her the role of Hannah Montana. Saying her audition was adorable, well, that's a major understatement.
Do you have any hilarious tapes to add to our list? Which one of these is your favorite?
