The Bachelor Juan Pablo disappointed a lot of fans when he gave an interview seemingly displaying a homophobic viewpoint. He told The TB Page that he didn't think there should be a Bachelor show with homosexual contestants because it "isn't [a] good example for kids to watch that on TV," and also said that gay people were "more pervert, in a sense." He later apologized, gave the usual spiel about his remarks being taken out of context, and chalked up the word "pervert" to his inefficiency with English. But at least one gay star is giving him a pass. Former 'N Sync-er Lance Bass says that JuanPab's comments can't crush his crush on the hot Venezuelan.
Lance told the Associated Press:
I don't hate him at all. I still think he's cute. Of course it's disappointing, because you don't want someone who [you] actually love to have those thoughts.
Err, so these thoughts wouldn't have been okay if Juan wasn't cute? Sounds a bit hypocritical, but maybe Lance is just ultra-forgiving -- at least if you're hot. He also believes that where Juan grew up has something to do with his skewed viewpoint. He told the AP:
When you grow up in a place like that, you get brainwashed into thinking that way, you know, you can't help what you grow up with. I mean, I grew up in Mississippi, so I know how people can get brainwashed into thinking really, really awful things. So hopefully, he will learn from this and get educated.
Considering that Juan wrote on his Facebook page that "one of [his] closest friends who's like a brother" is gay, it seems that he's already had ample opportunity to know that gay people wouldn't be bad for kids watching TV. I don't even get where that comes from!
That said, maybe Lance has the right idea not to bash him back -- because that would probably only make him retreat further into his ridiculous way of thinking. But it's kind of bizarre that Juan gets a pass on these comments from Lance, primarily because he's soooo cuuuuute.
Do you think Lance approached this in the right way? Or just forgives Juan because he's hot?
