It may be called reality TV, but it's clear there is nothing real about most of these shows. The most egregious has to be The Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises. Think about it: one guy or one girl gets to date (and make out with) 25 desperate-for-love people at once. In any other environment, that would make him or her a total sleaze. Well, Ashley Hebert, one of the show's most popular alums, is finally realizing what real life is like -- and it ain't pretty.
Ashley Instagrammed a photo of her studying for what looks like a dentistry exam, along with the caption: "I am living a fabulous life vicariously through all of the people I follow on Instagram! Here is my reality. Lol. #careerchange? #notsoglam"
It's a bit of a letdown for her fans, who remember the romantic whirlwind she experienced. They often like to think that they fairy tale goes on. But it's certainly quite a change from Ashley's time on both the Bachelor (as a contestant) and as star of the Bachelorette. For those weeks of filming, your life is transformed into a bizarre, fairy tale existence with over-the-top dates, romantic days and nights, ball gowns. Then there was her lavish, televised wedding to J.P. Rosenbaum. (She was one of the lucky few show alums who actually did find true love.) But inevitably, all that attention wanes and real life hits you.
Welcome to the regular, ordinary world Ashley! Fortunately for her, she seems to have embraced normalcy—meaning she went back to a real job. So many others refuse to do that, desperately holding on to their 15 minutes. That means you Jake Pavelka. LOL. Actually, he's far from the only one. They often quit their jobs and move to L.A. or New York hoping to land some job in the spotlight. It's worked out for a couple folks, like Ali Fedotowsky. She co-hosts a lifestyle show in Manhattan. But the rest seem to be hovering like vultures waiting for the next Bachelor Pad. It's kinda sad, really.
Do you think it's hard for former Bachelors and Bachelorettes to go back to their old lives after being on the show?
