The new year is bringing some big changes to Kelly Osbourne. She has ended her six-month engagement to vegan chef Matthew Mosshart. Wow! This is pretty shocking, actually. These two kids seemed so madly in love. Kelly's rep told People magazine:
Kelly and Matthew have decided to end their engagement. The split is amicable and the pair continue to have nothing but the utmost respect for one another. Kelly is looking forward to a new year full of fresh beginnings. No further comments will be provided by all parties and we request privacy, decorum, and space from the press but don't expect it.
Hmm. Kind of a snippy statement there, Kelly rep. Anyway, let's splice this with some decorum. What happened?! And why is Kelly turning to Justin Bieber of all people at this time?
Kelly has been quoted saying all kinds of gushy things about Matthew (and I personally saw them together at a Madonna concert, they seemed totally in lurv). She told Hello! magazine:
I have never felt this close to another human being, ever. We're completely in love. People say we're co-dependent but we just want to be together all the time.
Matthew and Kelly seemed like they were going strong over the Christmas holidays. She posted a pic of the two of them in their "ugly Christmas sweaters." They seemed happy. But you know how pictures can be. They don't tell the whole story. Or even a bit of it sometimes.
Maybe two young people who are glued at the hip are bound to become disenchanted with each other eventually. Maybe Kelly found out something about Matthew or vice versa. Maybe they just decided they weren't a good romantic match but will remain friends. I guess we won't know until one speaks up.

This is a shame because they really seemed like a good pair. But I'm sure they must have thought long and hard about it. Given that Kelly's parents, Ozzy and Sharon, have been married for 32 years, she clearly knows how many ups and downs a marriage can go through, and how important it is to work through things.
She seems to be taking the philosophical view, posting on Twitter:
its all about perception sometimes the bad things that happen in life aren't really bad at all especially when you learn something from it!— Kelly Osbourne (@KellyOsbourne) January 8, 2014
She's also soothing her bruised heart in an odd way -- spray painting walls with Justin Bieber. Maybe that works? It's like the 2014 version of getting drunk on margaritas and bitching about your ex for five hours?
Anyway, I wish Kelly and Matthew all the best. Back to your regularly scheduled decorum.
Are you surprised by their breakup?
