Honey Boo Boo & Family Injured in Frightening Car Crash

honey boo booTerrible news for one of our favorite TV families. Last night a car crash injured Honey Boo Boo, Mama June, Pumpkin, and Sugar Bear in their hometown, McIntyre, Georgia. Jessica was also in the car at the time. An ambulance rushed the Thompson family to a local hospital. We're glad everyone is still alive! Here's everything we know so far about how the accident happened and what injuries Honey Boo Boo and her family suffered.

Pumpkin tells TMZ that Honey Boo Boo has a headache and she herself has severe chest bruises. Mama June has back injuries and Sugar Bear suffered a back contusion. None of that sounds like a picnic, and back injuries can linger for years. But we're glad these injuries weren't any worse than that.

Sugar Bear was behind the wheel at an intersection, waiting to turn left. He drove forward when the light turned green, but a speeding driver ran a red light and slammed into the family's car, according to a source. It's a pretty common accident, and it can be fatal.

The third season of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is just days away, January 16. Some of the family members were hospitalized just last month in the middle of their Disney World vacation. Sugar Bear had a sinus infection, Jessica had bronchitis, and a family friend had the H1N1 virus. It's been a rough winter for the Thompsons/Shannons.

Our thoughts are with the entire Honey Boo Boo family -- we wish them a speedy and thorough recovery. And again, we're so relieved the accident wasn't any worse. We want our Honey Boo Boo and her family to be safe and well!

Have you ever been in this kind of accident?

I think it's worth pointing out that "contusion" is just the medical word for "bruise."

That aside, I hope they're okay even if they have a stupid TV show.

Bruises vary in severity.  It could be severe.

Uhm they are not the public's favorite tv family.

Contusions can be very bad. You know, the worst people in any accident are the ones that get up and are fine, a few bruises ... next thing they loose consciousness due to subdural haematomas etc. Contusions can indeed be bad, they are a result often of blunt force trauma and that can range from a bruise to death. please remember it is different to a regular bruise as is the mechanism of unjury. And yes, I am a nurse and I have seen these injuries in Emergency and ICU.
