Last year, Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Actress Oscar. But as memorable and notable as her performance in Silver Linings Playbook was, her walk up to the Academy Awards stage was one for the books! In fact, she's still talking about it, likely in the run-up to this year's awards season, during which she's already nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe for American Hustle.
While JLaw has blamed the Trip Seen Round the World on her lavish Dior Haute Couture gown and maybe "waxed stairs," the funny actress only recently explained to W magazine exactly what went down before she went down on that fateful night last February ...
I was at the Oscars, waiting to hear if my name was called, and I kept thinking, 'Cakewalk, cakewalk, cakewalk.' I thought, Why is 'cakewalk' stuck in my head? And then, as I started to walk up the stairs and the fabric from my dress tucked under my feet, I realized my stylist had told me, 'Kick, walk, kick, walk.' You are supposed to kick the dress out while you walk, and I totally forgot because I was thinking about cake! And that’s why I fell.
Haa, awww. Really, if that doesn't make you feel for her, I don't know what would. It sounds like she was basically just really distracted and made nervous by all the Oscar hoopla. And come on, who wouldn't be?!
From the outside, it looks like all fun, games, shiny gold statues, and red carpet romping, but you gotta think ... nominees probably have a LOT on their plates that night. Jennifer had to bear in mind what she was going to say in her acceptance speech, how she would react when she won or lost, the major suits she was expected to schmooze with, etc. And on top of ALL of that, her stylist wanted her to remember to kick and walk. Puh-leeease! It's no wonder she wiped out!
Well, fingers crossed she -- and her stylist! -- learned a lesson last year. No need to wear couture that requires a special dance routine to make it up the stairs. Whether she takes home the gold or not, it's not worth the risk!
Do you feel bad for Jennifer or do you think she shoulda known better than to wear that dress?
