For a while now it's been easy to rag on Ke$ha for all her crazy antics, the fact that she's all about brushing your teeth with a bottle of Jack, and that whole incident where Ke$ha had sex with a ghost. But now it's more apparent than ever that she's been struggling behind closed doors. It was confirmed yesterday that Ke$ha has checked into rehab for an eating disorder. The singer (whose real name is Kesha Rose Sebert) told TMZ in a statement that she'll be "unavailable for the next 30 days" while she's at Timberline Knolls rehab center learning to love herself again:
I'm a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself, but I've found it hard to practice.
This move comes on the heels of Ke$ha releasing her self-directed risque new music video for "Dirty Love" and telling her Twitter followers that 2014 will be the year of "truth and freedom."
Well, seems like Ke$ha's ready to face the truth.
This is the girl who sings about getting "crunk" and partying the night away. This is the girl that drank her own urine on TV. You hear "rehab" and "Ke$ha" in the same sentence, and you can't blame a lady for thinking that perhaps the singer was seeking treatment for a possible alcohol problem.
But really, let's look at the facts: throughout 2013, the "Timber" singer noticeably got skinnier shedding weight by eating right and doing a juice cleanse. As a female pop star, Ke$ha is constantly putting herself out there, body included. To be able to roll around in front of the camera wearing next to nothing, that takes a LOT of guts and a LOT of self confidence. I can't even imagine what that's like, that intense pressure to have that body that you don't mind showing off to the world. To have a body that she can bend and twist and grind with and feel no inhibitions.
It's clear with this major step in the right direction that Ke$ha's ready to work some things out. I truly hope that whatever demons she's battling, she's able to face them at Timberline Knolls and come out on the other side of this as the strong, overconfident woman that her fans adore.
