One of the saddest things about Patrick Swayze's death in 2009 to pancreatic cancer was that he left behind Lisa Niemi, his wife of 34 years. In Hollywood, where so few marriages stand the test of time, Swayze and Niemi were the gold standard. She stood by him through his meteoric rise to fame with films like Dirty Dancing, she was there when he was sick, and she was with him for everything in between.
The couple met in 1970, when Niemi, a dancer, was taking a class from Swayze's mother, Patsy Swayze. Um, can I please take a dance class where I am introduced to my future and babelicious husband? I will woo him with my lack of moves. Apparently, it was love at first sight.

She's been quiet about her forays into the dating world after losing her husband -- and understandably so. But Lisa has been dating jeweler Albert DePrisco for a little over a year. The two met through friends, and on Christmas Eve (cute!), DePrisco proposed and Lisa accepted.
This story makes my heart glad for all parties involved. After experiencing one great love and then losing him way too soon, I can't imagine ever trying to put myself out there again. Dating itself isn't for sissies, let alone as a widow. Lisa's bravery was rewarded with a second chance at love. What better way to start off a new year? We bet Patrick is looking down with nothing but approval.
