December 20 will be a very hard day for the loved ones of Gia Allemand -- it would have been the beloved Bachelor and Bachelor Pad star's 30th birthday. Gia committed suicide in August, and even for those of us who only "knew" her from television, it's still hard to believe and terribly sad that the bright and charming beauty is gone.
Her family and closest friends have decided to do something beautiful in Gia's honor on her birthday. Gia's mom, Donna Micheletti, along with friends, put together an event to celebrate Gia's life and to help save the lives of others. Money raised will go toward the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. And everyone is invited.
Tickets are $110 for this black tie event taking place in Lindenhurst, New York. There will be DJ Vic Latino, cocktails, dinner, dancing, and dessert. The proceeds will no doubt help save the lives of those contemplating suicide. Gia's fiance, New Orleans Pelicans NBA player Ryan Anderson, will be speaking to the attendees via Skype since he cannot make the event. Many of the Bachelor stars are said to be attending. I'm wondering if Jake will be there.
On such a difficult day, and a difficult time of year since it's the holidays, what a beautiful tribute to Gia's life, giving it even more meaning by doing something to help raise money for suicide prevention. She is so missed by so many, and while they no doubt wish she were here, her death can help others see how suicide is not an answer, not a solution.
All the best to her family and friends to get through these tough times. What a great cause they are supporting in her honor.
Will you attend the event? Have you honored loved ones who passed through charities or charity events?
