When I first heard the song Royals by Lorde on the radio this summer I was obsessed! I told all my friends who were (sort of secret) pop music lovers and I proclaimed it was the song of the summer. (Right behind Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Ray.) But every song's like gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom. Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room, we don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams. But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece. Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash. We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair. Oh yes!
Well summer is over but not my love for this song which was just renewed in a huge way thanks to the ladies at Florida State University's AcaBelles a capella group. This version ... it's phenomenal.
That's not a recording! That's human beat boxes that puts Justin Timberlake to the test. Rhythm! Wow! Chills! If I'm able, I'd love to put in a request for these extremely talented singers to cover Summertime Sadness next. Perhaps they need to make the talk show rounds, too. Ellen?
How much do you love this version?
