'Game of Thrones' Makes Our Heads Spin With More Than 20 New Actors

Who are all these people??
It's seemed like every other week during the (insanely long) (at least to me) hiatus between seasons 3 and 4 of Game of Thrones, a new casting announcement is made. If you're anything like me, even though I have read the books, Google is your best friend when you're watching any given episode ... it's really, really hard to keep track of all these characters! And even though a bunch of beloved ones were killed off last season (sorry, spoiler alert?), there are over 20 new actors who have recently been cast for season 4. That's ... kind of insane!

We've discussed some of the big names, from Mark Gatiss as Tycho Nestoris to Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand to Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martell, even the recasting of hottie Daario. With all these new faces, plus all of the storylines from all our other favorite characters, it might be even tougher to keep up. Alas, what's a Game of Thrones fan to do?!

Granted, a lot of the actors who are cast have unknown roles, so their parts might be rather minor. There's been some Internet chatter over all the recastings as well, especially of Daario and The Mountain; hopefully they'll get The Mountain right considering Gregor most likely will take part in a major fight scene in the fourth season (spoilers?).

But as a fan who's invested way more time than what should be considered healthy delving into this series, the fact that there are going to be so many new faces to keep track of and learn about is a tad daunting and exhausting. It's already tough enough for the show to give enough screen time to Jon, Daenerys, Arya, Jaime, Brienne, Tyrion, Cersei, Tywin, Petyr, Davos, Stannis, Sansa, Theon, Bran, Joffrey, Sam, Ygritte, Varys, OMG my eyes are currently traveling backward up into my head because they just can't take it anymore.

Should we be worried that there is simply too much story to get through when it comes to these massive tomes? And that more attention will be taken away from characters we've grown to love in order to introduce all these newbies? Of course, season 3 was one of the best seasons eeeeever on television, based on the first half of A Storm of Swords, so everyone involved certainly knows what they're doing. But just as speculation is mounting that author George R. R. Martin is stalling on writing the conclusion to the series because he, basically, has NO IDEA how to wrap everything up with a nice little bow (or graveyard), we can only hope that all these characters simply won't overwhelm the show. All of us, even the most diehard fans, I'm assuming, are willing to sacrifice a minor character or two or eight so we can enjoy the viewing experience as opposed to having to look up names every 15 seconds.

You see the problems that keep me awake at night. All this said, I obviously cannot wait for season 4 to premiere on my television screen. Even though we are the first to critique and criticize what goes on (just goes to show how much we all love this story), I know it's going to be amazing to watch it all unfold yet again. We've gotta get through winter first! As George says, “Nothing burns like the cold.”

Do you have a hard time keeping track of all the characters on Game of Thrones?
