Celebrities have had their share of things to say about Miley Cyrus's tongue-lolling and twerking antics. Cher, Pink, and Elton John all reportedly slammed Miley in the media (though some later recanted). The latest to have her say is Jennifer Lawrence. While Jennifer was too classy to name Miley outright, she was asked by a BBC Newsnight interviewer what she thought about young women like Miley, whose careers are so dependent on their flagrant sexuality. What she says shows us again why we love JLaw so much!
Jennifer told BBC's Newsnight:
It is a part of the entertainment industry that sells. Sex sells, and for some disgusting reason young sex sells even more ... Everybody's got their own path and their way of finding themselves ... For some people, that’s how they feel best, that’s how they feel sexy ... Twerking with a dwarf ... I'm not by any means ... I'm just saying, to each his own.
She went on to say that as long as young girls watch her films, she will strive to make good decisions regarding how she acts. About refusing to lose weight for the role of Katniss, she said:
We have the ability to control this image that young girls are going to be seeing [in The Hunger Games] ... girls see enough of this body that they will never be able to obtain ... It's an amazing opportunity to rid ourselves of that in this industry.
Yet she defended her own sexy photoshoot in GQ, made when she was 20, saying it was a "PR move" that she has "no regrets" about.
It's obvious that JLaw cares about her young female fans and wants to be a good role model for them. Ahh, if only all young female stars were so conscientious. Miley, are you listening, girl?
What do you think about what Jennifer is saying? Is she a better role model for girls?
