Even though the Miss Universe pageant doesn't air here in the United States until 9 p.m. EST on NBC, we have the inside scoop on the lucky lady to take home the title of Miss Universe 2013. The big winner? (Spoiler alert!) 25-year-old Miss Venezuela Gabriela Isler. However going into the evening of competition, which took place in Moscow, Miss Philippines Ariella Arida was the clear fan favorite out of the 86 hopefuls.
Despite Super Typhoon Haiyan, Arida stuck out the competition and urged everyone to stay strong saying that the "Filipino spirit is waterproof." But her positive attitude and beautiful looks landed her as the third runner up.
But back to our winner Gabriela. Sure, Isler is drop-dead gorgeous. A model with a degree in management and marketing, she gets brownie points in my book for confessing that she believes "motherhood is the toughest job on earth." But her answer during the question and answer round is what definitely sealed the title for her.
Gabriela's question: "What is your biggest fear and how do you plan to overcome it?"
Gabriela's answer: "We should overcome all our fears and this in turn would make us stronger. As soon as we overcome our fears we can face any challenge."
A little broad? Eh, sure. However -- the beauty queen has a point: facing your fears head on is the only way to overcome them. I appreciate her optimism and am hopeful that she'll carry this promising attitude throughout her reign as Miss Universe.
Tune in tonight at 9 p.m. to watch Gabriela's journey to the crown!
