Julianne Hough's Blackface Costume Isn't Just Offensive, It's Bad (PHOTO)

OMG 78

juliann hough blackfaceDancing With the Stars alum Julianne Hough attended a Halloween party over the weekend and her costume caused quite the stir. Hough dressed in blackface, going as Uzo Aduba's character "Crazy Eyes" from the hit show Orange is the New Black. The actress completed her look with an orange jumpsuit, a "Crazy Eyes" name tag, and a knotted hairdo. Needless to say, people were none too please with Hough's choice of costume.

After the backlash, Hough took to her Twitter to apologize for her costume, which was clearly in poor taste, saying: "I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."

While it sounds like Hough is sorry about the criticism, and wasn't deliberately trying to offend people, it really is a surprise that she displayed such foolish judgment. Also, for the record, Crazy Eyes' character usually wears a khaki jumpsuit, not an orange one. So yeah. Not even a really good costume.

Do you think Julianne is truly sorry for her costume? What's the most offensive Halloween costume you've ever seen?

It isn't offensive nor racist, it's a costume of a famous character for a Halloween part for goodness sakes. Were Dave Chappell and Eddie Murphy being racist or offensive when they dressed in "white face?" Are we going to ban people dressing as witches and warlocks for fear that we offend people who believe in Wicca? People need to get over themselves and let the past go, I'm not saying forget the past, but at soe point you have to leave it behind and move forward.

So a white person can ONLY dress up as a white person???  Is it wrong then, for a black person to dress up as a famous white person or celebrity???

This is STUPID!!!!  And she isn't even in 'blackface.'  She dressed up as a character in a show.  Actors play other nationalities ALL the time in the movies and theatre.  Is that racist??  Wow, who knew???

This is not "black face" Is she degrading/making fun of black people?? Nope. She is dressing as a character she likes. I wouldn't do it. But this is NOT "black face" ugh. So stupid. I would not be offended if someone painted their face white for a costume. Ridiculous.

Omg. Get over it!!! So it makes her racist that she dressed up as someone she likes and admires on a TV show?

Eddie Murphy etc al dressing as a white person has NO WHERE near the historical precedent as whites dressing in black face. There are truly thousands of other costumes to choose from. Black face or other costumes which might stereotype ethnicities may come off as offensive.

Amen mike, this is the stir trying to racially charge something again.

I think its BS she has to issue a public apology!!

Its halloween, and its a costume...'live and let live!

Get over it and stop trying to instigate the already over judgemental moms. People like you are the ignorant problem, not Hough's choice of costume.
