You know that old song that goes "Anything you can do I can do better; I can do anything better than you"? That's the tune that came to mind when I watched Betty White's video spoof of Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball" video. Sorry, Miley -- time to put your tongue back in your mouth and tuck the foam finger back in your ... uh, wherever you keep it, because you just got PWNED by a 91-year-old woman.
White's parody is actually a promo for her hidden camera series Betty White's Off Their Rockers, and it's more enjoyable than the Miley original in pretty much every way. For one thing, Betty's sporting a very spiffy white tracksuit and Chuck Taylors, which means I don't have to feel awkward watching it or worry about how cold her underparts are. For another thing -- well, it's Betty White. Add Betty White to ANYTHING and it's instantly a superior product.
In the clip, White explains that she was asked to help promote her show, which is moving to the Lifetime network:
So I got some ideas from recent pop culture events that really got the kids talking.
You can probably guess what happens next:
Ha! I love how she gives the sledgehammer a chaste little smooch at the end, before waving a red-manicured foam finger.
What's great about this, aside from Betty White's inherent awesomeness, is how utterly comical it makes Miley Cyrus's recent performance antics look. I mean, this isn't funny because it's an old lady doing something a hot 20-year-old just did, it's funny because flailing around on a wrecking ball and gyrating with an oversized sports finger is RIDICULOUS.
Also, there's just something righteous about a woman with an amazing 74-year career in entertainment gently mocking Cyrus's shenanigans. Never mind all those increasingly unhinged open letters from Sinead O'Connor, Betty White said it all and plugged her show at the same time. WINNING.
