Another day, another casting -- sorry, recasting -- rumor about Fifty Shades of Grey. Shortly after Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the film, reports were claiming that actors Alexander Skarsgard, Jamie Dornan, and fan favorite Matt Bomer were the leading contenders. But now another report has surfaced, from Us Weekly no less, saying that Luke Bracey is at the "top of the list" for potential Christian Greys.
Okay, first of all, who is this Bracey guy? Well, he's a 24-year-old actor who's best known for playing the character Trey Palmer on the Australian soap Home and Away. He also appeared in the 2011 teeny-bopper rom-com Monte Carlo with Leighton Meester and Selena Gomez. And he was once spotted holding hands with Gomez at a Golden Globes party after she split with Justin Bieber. Scandalous.
I really don't know what to think anymore. To be honest, a part of me feels like E.L. James and the producers are just messing with us now. In fact, I wouldn't be a surprised if Hunnam's dropping out was part of an elaborate Hollywood ruse to generate more publicity and excitement for the film. Okay, maybe not. But still. The speculation is getting ridiculous already.
It can't be that much longer until we find out who's cast in the lucky role, as shooting is set to start soon for the movie. So I guess until then we'll just have to wait. And speculate. And then be disappointed when we find out who it is, because no one will top the Christian we've all created in our minds.
Who do you want to see play Christian?
