'50 Shades of Grey' Miscasting Is Written All Over Charlie Hunnam's Face

Flicks 13

charlie hunnam on soaLove it or hate it, Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson are on-board for the long haul with the Fifty Shades of Grey series as Christian and Ana. But for some reason, we're still talking about whether or not the actors were miscast. Cosmo even recently explored just how suitable they are for the parts based on something kiiinda out of left field: Their facial features!

The ladymag spoke with facial features expert Jean Haner, who revealed which actor she thinks is a perfect fit and which is completely WRONG ... And I'm guessing you'll be pretty surprised -- and possibly even fired up -- by what she had to say.

dakota johnson

Apparently, Dakota is, in Haner's opinion, the perfect Ana. That's because she has prominent cheeks, which are a sign of someone who will speak up for her needs. She also has straight (vs. rounded) eyebrows, which are a sign of someone who's more practical and no-nonsense. She holds some tension in her mouth, which means she has emotional boundaries. Her deep-set eyes, sculpted nose, and tension in her lips suggest she's more introverted ... but not too much so. (Huh?) And finally, she has a strong chin, which equals a strong sex drive. Interesting.

Meanwhile, Haner says Charlie Hunnam's facial features -- full lips, wide face, rounded hairline, somewhat rounded eyebrows -- lead her to believe he "doesn't have a kinky bone in his body." For instance, his full lips mean "at his heart, he's a family man who loves kids. He's interested in making the woman in his life happy, but not controlling her in any way," while his slightly rounded eyebrows say "he's not so interested in weird or unusual sexual lifestyles." Therefore, he's not "believable in the role."

Instead, she would have recommended "a guy with sharp cheekbones and hollowness to his cheeks -- both features of someone who likes to be in control. He'd also have a strong brow bone and deep-set eyes, which are signs of someone who likes to be domineering, and a widow's peak, which usually means the person has natural sex appeal and charisma, and tends to enjoy kinky sex." Oh plllleeease. (Sounds like she's on Team Ian, huh?) Annoying!

Obviously there's a lot more to being believable in a role than this. Namely, the chemistry between the actors -- which Charlie has already spoken to! -- and their pure talent. While it's good to know Dakota's facial features make her a good fit, there's no reason fans should be less than thrilled about Charlie as Christian. Rounded eyebrows and full lips aside, I'm sure his performance will blow us away.

What do you think about this analysis? Are you with Haner?

Anastasia isn't described in the books at all like this "facial expert" says of Dakota! If anyone is WRONG for a part it's Dakota for Ana! And doesn't have prominent cheeks and strong features and a long sculpted nose. Ana's face is small and she's described as having small, pretty and gentle features. The complete opposite of what this person says and the opposite of what Dakota has. She couldn't be more horrible for this role. She's nothing like Ana, and first even look youthful, virginal, and beautiful. This person's full of crap.

Phobe Grey

Obviously your 'expert' has not read a word of the books.Ana is the original 'doormat' a disaster waiting to happen. She doesn't speak up for herself unless she's pushed, poked and prodded with a cattle prod, or strapped. I mean who in their right mind asks someone who believes  they're a sadist to hurt them and then is surprised when they do? Then blow me,within a week is right back with him? Ana DOESN'T talk about her feelings it's one of Christian's biggest complaints. Dakota is too old,too tall, too 'rugged' looking to be Ana and as for Charlie Hunnam.....Where do you start he's so miscast. I agree he's totally unbelievable.

I am so sick and tired reading about how these two don't "look the part" because he has a beard and long blond hair and she is also a blonde. It also doesn't help matters that Cosmo shows a description from the text and posts a picture that is polar opposite, as if they are trying to prove a point. We all know they are going to throw some hair dye on them and he will cut his hair and shave. What bothers me the most is that people are focusing too much on the physical appearance of the actors and not enough on their abilities and talent, case in point, Cosmo. I, for one, am excited to see Charlie Hunnam portray Christian Grey. He is fantastic on Sons of Anarchy. There has to be a reason why they were cast other than to piss off a large majority of the fan base. I would much rather watch a 50 Shades with great acting and chemistry between the two leads rather than have my dream cast . Give it a rest and give them a chance.

@Car E Cald - Hair dye won't change Dakota's facial features and body. Just because someone has brown hair doesn't mean they have the right look, and ELJ made their looks important that's why she put so much detail into them. Dakota also looks old and not youthful. Charlie will look the part when they clean him up and dye his hair. He has the look and the body otherwise.

I think you can analyze facial features all you want, but in the end do they have the ability to convince us through acting the part is what needs to be examined. I know the work of Charlie Hunnam and I'm fully absolutely convinced he can nail this part. No pun intended.

Definitely bs! I agree w/ Lauren0983. And not only does Dakota look nothing like Ana is described therefore this "facial expert's" judgement is inaccurate, but Ana doesn't speak up for her needs or is like that at all, at least the majority of the time. Has this person even read the books, because it certainly seems like they haven't! Charlie is a great actor and cleaned up he is attractive, but I don't find him drop dead gorgeous and that's why he isn't CG to me, but Dakota is absolutely not Ana Steele. Charlie would be more Christian than she is Ana though. She ruins it.

"Facial Experts " MY ASS ! I am so excited to see Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey. I can't wait!

What an idiot! Get a real job! The two actors are perfect! Charlie H. Always plays strong dominant roles with high intensity. He's no stranger to on camera love making. He has an impeccable physical draw that tends to pull women in. He clearly took this role because he had the chemistry. This critic clearly did not do her job in researching his work before giving her useless opinion.

Jayne Aldridge Seboe

I'll admit they are not my choice for Christin and Anna, but I too think he can be cleaned up and will work out ok. I know nothing of his acting skills. So I'll reserve judgement. She on the other hand is nothing like I was expecting. She has "brown hair and blue eyes that seem to large for her face", NOT. BUT it's done so this site does nothing but stir shit up. Leave it alone already.
