In today's news custom-engineered to make you feel old as hell, Eminem's daughter Hailie Scott isn't a little kid anymore. Once immortalized as a baby in a VERY uncomfortable song about her mother Kim (remember "'97 Bonnie and Clyde"? There goes mama, spwashin in the water, No more fightin wit dad, no more restraining order / No more step-da-da, no more new brother / Blow her kisses bye-bye, tell mama you love her), Hailie is now a teenager and described by her peers' parents as a "smart, athletic, and caring young woman."
As if it's not trippy enough to hear that Hailie -- little Hailie Jade! -- is in high school, let me go ahead and blow your mind even more by sharing the fact that she's just been crowned HOMECOMING QUEEN.
Hailie has managed to do a pretty good job of staying out of the spotlight as she's grown up, although there have been a couple of hoax Twitter accounts linked to her in recent years. She's now 17 years old and attends Chippewa Valley High School in Clinton Township, Michigan, where she was just named homecoming queen last Friday night.
Here are a couple of screengrabs from a local ABC affiliate's coverage of the event:
Aw, isn't she pretty? According to one parent, Eminem was definitely there to see his daughter but stayed out of public view:
Hailie came out with her mother Kim (Scott) when she was introduced with all the other kids but her father watched from inside the school because he didn’t want to cause a scene -- he wanted Hailie to have her own moment.
Another parent said that Hailie has earned her own popularity among the student body and faculty members, explaining that there's little association with her famous dad:
I think all of the kids in the district have shown respect to their family and just let her live a normal life here out of the spotlight. I think that speaks very highly of the Chippewa Valley community to not try to take advantage of their fame.
Okay, setting aside the whole upsetting passing-of-time thing (seriously, she's 17?), it's nice to hear that Hailie Scott is enjoying such a normal and seemingly positive life, isn't it? She didn't exactly come from the happiest marriage in the entire world, and both her parents have struggled with addiction. Add in the fame-by-proxy factor, and I wouldn't have been at all surprised to hear that she'd moved to L.A. and was partying with Miley Cyrus or something. Good for her, and kudos to her parents for doing what they can to give her a non-celebrity upbringing.
Are you surprised to hear that Eminem's daughter is 1) totally not a little kid anymore, and 2) homecoming queen?
