As Miley Cyrus once sang, long before the days of tongues and twerks, "Everybody makes mistakes." And that goes for EVERYBODY -- even Barbara Walters. Yup, Babwah Wahwah messed up big time, and you know how I know? Because she messed up big time by insulting Katy Perry, and I don't even like Katy Perry all that much, but I can still think Walters messed up, which must mean she really messed up. Confused yet? Here's what happened: Back when Katy Perry's marriage to Russell Brand was falling apart (which was soooo shocking, cough, cough), the singer was late to an interview with Walters -- something that doesn't happen too often to the ... iconic? interviewer, apparently, cause Walters FLIPPED OUT about it. By which I mean Walters pulled out a reference from her heyday and compared Perry to Judy Garland, of all people, insinuating that Perry would drop dead of a drug overdose at or around the age of 47, Garland-style.
Um, harsh?! (And random, too.) Anyway, since Perry recently opened up about the incident in Billboard magazine, Walters is backpedaling all over the place -- and her excuse is weeeeeeeaaak.
See, Walters is now saying that she didn't know the reason why Perry was late at the time, and that she never would've ripped her apart if she'd been aware of her marital troubles. On The View, the host said:
"Katy, if I made you feel at all unhappy, during a time when you were obviously unhappy, and I didn't know, I'm sorry ... You can't always know!"
Well, Babs, you know what I say? Too little, too late!! It's true, "you can't always know" -- and that's exactly why you SHOULD always give people the benefit of the doubt. So Perry was late for one interview -- suddenly she's a tragic pill-popper headed for certain doom? Jeez, lady, get a grip. And have some compassion.
Do you think Barbara Walters' apology to Katy Perry is enough?
