Barbara Walters' Apology to Katy Perry Is Too Little, Too Late

GossipMonger 15

katy perryAs Miley Cyrus once sang, long before the days of tongues and twerks, "Everybody makes mistakes." And that goes for EVERYBODY -- even Barbara Walters. Yup, Babwah Wahwah messed up big time, and you know how I know? Because she messed up big time by insulting Katy Perry, and I don't even like Katy Perry all that much, but I can still think Walters messed up, which must mean she really messed up. Confused yet? Here's what happened: Back when Katy Perry's marriage to Russell Brand was falling apart (which was soooo shocking, cough, cough), the singer was late to an interview with Walters -- something that doesn't happen too often to the ... iconic? interviewer, apparently, cause Walters FLIPPED OUT about it. By which I mean Walters pulled out a reference from her heyday and compared Perry to Judy Garland, of all people, insinuating that Perry would drop dead of a drug overdose at or around the age of 47, Garland-style.

Um, harsh?! (And random, too.) Anyway, since Perry recently opened up about the incident in Billboard magazine, Walters is backpedaling all over the place -- and her excuse is weeeeeeeaaak.

See, Walters is now saying that she didn't know the reason why Perry was late at the time, and that she never would've ripped her apart if she'd been aware of her marital troubles. On The View, the host said:

"Katy, if I made you feel at all unhappy, during a time when you were obviously unhappy, and I didn't know, I'm sorry ... You can't always know!"

Well, Babs, you know what I say? Too little, too late!! It's true, "you can't always know" -- and that's exactly why you SHOULD always give people the benefit of the doubt. So Perry was late for one interview -- suddenly she's a tragic pill-popper headed for certain doom? Jeez, lady, get a grip. And have some compassion.

Do you think Barbara Walters' apology to Katy Perry is enough?

Agreed.

Please, have someone proofread articles on this site. I can't grab a red pen and do it, but I can feel my English teacher from high school glaring over my shoulder at the frequent errors.

I cant stand her. Walters that is. She thinks way too highly of herself, all she does is interview some folks and has created a god awful "talk show" She didnt know so she felt it was ok to insult her? See its not just tweens who bully in middle school, its aarp members too.

I do think the apology is more than enough: This all happened, what, more than a year ago?! One has to ask, also, why did Katy feel the need to reveal that tidbit about Barbara's snarky impatience? Sure, Ms. Walters could have been much more professional, whether or not she knew why Katy was late: Katy, on the other hand, needs to let go of a petty grudge. Score: Tie.

leave Barbara alone..you guys seem to think that over 80 means over the hill.  Remember we are the GREATEST GENERATION and you better believe we are full of knowledge.  Katy Perry is a big cry baby and needs to be cut off at the knees..Barbara should not have apoligized to a has been.

is the apology enough? no, it's no, because it wasn't even a proper apology.

Barbara Argyropoulos

No need to to say hurtful insulting things about anyone in this way. If you have this attitude to celebs, why have a career interviewing them? Being destructive is never clever. The apology is hollow and insincere.

No, I'd tell Barbara Walters to go **** herself and as hard as she could.

Hey Shirley, Katy is no "has been" and no "cry baby".  Do you know that Ms. Perry is,additionally, not a druggie?  Come on now, Barbara acknowledges an error and nobody is suggesting that she is "over the hill" except you.

Oiy vey! I think an apology from you is in order! You called Barbara Walters "Babwah Wahwah". I know why you did it, but do you not see that is childish and uncalled for to make fun of someone with a true speech impediment? That's just sad. Shame on you!
