'Walking Dead' Makes the Strangest Casting Decision Yet With 'Phineas & Ferb' Star (VIDEO)

TV Addict 6

Walking Dead Phineas & FerbHere's some oddball news from The Walking Dead: Vincent Martella has been cast as a Woodbury survivor named Patrick. As in, the guy who voices Phineas Flynn on the kids' show Phineas & Ferb. ("Mooooomm! Phineas and Ferb are making a zombie show!")

Here's what we know so far about Martella's character: he joins the prison community from Woodbury, and he ends up being buddies with Carl. ("He’s one of the new people who Carl gets a little closer with. Carl hasn’t really had anybody his age, so now you kind of get to see Carl’s relationship with people his own age and that’s one of the things that Patrick is bringing to the show.")

Want to get a peek at Phineas, err, Martella in action? He appears, albeit briefly, in AMC's newly-released extended preview for season 4. Featuring new footage and interviews with the cast and crew, it's well worth the four-minute viewing time.

Let's start with Vincent Martella's adorable excitement over landing the role:

I was actually a massive fan of The Walking Dead. I’ve watched it since its premiere. It’s been such a cool thing for me to be a part of the show that I’m such a big fan of, because I don’t watch too much television religiously, like every single week. But this is one of those shows, so I’m really lucky.

Comic fans may wonder if this confirmation of a friendship for Carl will lead to the infamous Ben storyline from the books. (Without spoiling the comics, I'll just say that in the original story, something happens between Carl and Ben that affects Carl in a big way.) It's been reported that previous casting notices had Patrick with a brother named Mack, so it sounds possible a similar grim story will unfold.

We don't learn much about Patrick in the preview video, but he does appear at the :42 mark. Take a look:

Tyreese with a girlfriend! A zombie getting its head buzzed off by a car tire! New character Bob Stookey fighting off walkers while screaming about something! Herds compromising the prison fence! Even more references to the mysterious inside threat that I feel they've totally overhyped at this point! A lot of focus on knives! Stookey staring in horror at the blood on his hands! Rick tearfully asking "Why?"!

There's a lot going on in that preview, and it looks like a safe bet to assume that life for the prison survivors is going to get very, very unpleasant in season 4. My gut feeling is that young Phineas Patrick is going to turn out to be bad news, but I guess we won't know for sure until the show comes back on the air. Less than a month to go!

What do you think about the casting of Vincent Martella?

It's not strange, it's not as if his character is going to walk around saying "Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today" and he doesnt have the Phineas voice, so it's not strange at all.

Ermagerd. Ben was already in the show, along with his parents, and is already dead. They're likely just trying to get some development for Carl to keep him from becoming a psychopath, since Sophia is dead, and her role in the comics was to preserve the innocence of children, and Judith is too young to do so.

Looks equally awesome and nerve-wracking at the same time. Can't wait.

I wondered if they would bring in the serial killer among the prisoner's aspect! Yay.
