Surrounded by speculation about her marital woes and husband's alleged drug addiction and infidelity, Khloe Kardashian seems to be hell-bent on keeping her lips sealed. Sort of. She continues to drop vague hints via social media. Like how she posted about self-compassion and self-love -- tweeting advice to "love yourself for a lifetime." That seemed upbeat, positive, reassuring ... So did the quote she Instagrammed about "being your own hero and saving your own little heart." But her latest "statement," if you will, is about 180 degrees from that.
Today, Khloe posted a photo via Instagram of a woman wearing a Venetian-style carnival mask and the sad quote, "She smiles to mask the pain in her heart. She laughs to conceal the tears in her eyes." Eeep! Whaaaat is going on with her?!
One possibility: Radar reports that a source recently explained of the situation, "Khloe’s entire self-worth and identity is wrapped up in her marriage and relationship to Lamar." So maybe it wouldn't be so crazy to guess that Khloe could be suffering from self-esteem/self-image issues -- and possibly even mild depression -- in the wake of all this Lamar drama. That Instagram quote sure sounds depressed ...
We all go through ups and downs emotionally, and it doesn't necessarily mean we need to be formally treated. I feel like there's so much taboo surrounding mental illness that sometimes we're afraid to do what it takes to just bolster our mental well-being! Which sometimes means sitting down and talking to a professional ... a psychologist, a counselor, someone impartial, unbiased who can offer an outsider's perspective.
Khloe's probably very adept at venting to her sisters and momager Kris Jenner. She obviously has no problem sharing with her Instagram followers about that "pain in her heart" or "tears in her eyes." But given how she seems to be hinting at putting serious, gloomy emotions on the backburner, she might benefit from having someone else hear her out. After all, part of "loving yourself for a lifetime" means taking care of yourself -- both your body and mind.
Do you think Khloe may be at risk of suffering from depression? Do you agree there's an unnecessary taboo surrounding addressing even mild depression?
