Full disclosure: I haven't seen the entire premiere episode of the new FOX series Sleepy Hollow. But that doesn't matter, because I've seen enough to know that a.) I like this show and b.) This show will disappoint a lot of people. Hey, isn't she contradicting herself just a bit? No. No, I am not contradicting myself. See, that's because I'm not one of the people who will be disappointed, and THAT'S because I plan to accept this show for what it is (a crazy over-the-top pop culture collage with a supernatural slant) and not mourn the show for what it's not (Game of Thrones).
That's what the producers have been trying to sell this new historical fiction-inspired sci-fi/drama as: Something new for Game of Thrones fans to check out! Hey, you like old-time sorta spooky stuff, so you'll love this! But the problem is, most of Sleepy Hollow is set in the present day -- we only revisit the Revolutionary War in flashbacks. Whereas Game of Thrones is all a long time ago, all the time. Plus, Game of Thrones follows the books it's based on, to a point, while Sleepy Hollow merely borrows the basic premise of its inspiration (dude named Ichabod, dude with no head) and then goes galloping off in its own direction.
Check out this clip and you'll see what I mean:
Looks like a good time, right? (And, um, I don't remember Ichabod Crane being anywhere near THAT hot.) But is it anything like Game of Thrones?
Do you think Sleepy Hollow will appeal to Game of Thrones fans?
